An all-time record crowd of more than 200,000 fans made their summer pilgrimage to West Sussex for the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the greatest motoring garden party in the world. The overall event theme – 'Addicted To Winning – The Unbeatable Champions of Motor Sport' – gave Lord March and his team an unparalleled opportunity to celebrate the most illustrious names in the history of motor sport, and the drivers, riders, cars and motorcycles who gathered for four glorious days in June exceeded even the most stratospheric expectations. Mercedes-Benz celebrated 120 years in motor sport with a spectacular sculpture that actually spanned Goodwood House. Silhouetted against the skyline as it soared over the roof were two Silver Arrows grand prix cars: a pre-war W25 and Lewis Hamilton's W04 from 2013. Down below, John Surtees and Kimi Raikkonen – the latter making his Goodwood debut – drove their Formula 1 World Championship-winning Ferraris up the famous Goodwood hill in convoy to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Surtees' victory in 1964. As ever, modern F1 cars lit up the show just a week before the British Grand Prix, Hamilton, Jenson Button, Felipe Massa bringing fans to the edge of the track as they screamed up Lord March’s front drive.

There was also a rapturous reception for the NASCAR contingent from the United States. While his compatriots thundered up the hill in a display of shock and awe, burning rubber and making the Tarmac tremble, star billing went to the King of NASCAR himself, Richard Petty, whose seven championships and 200 race wins epitomise the event theme.

Motorcycles have become a key attraction in recent years, star billing in 2014 going to world champions Giacomo Agostini, Wayne Gardner and Freddie Spencer, TT legend John McGuinness, and current MotoGP stars Bradley Smith and Scott Redding. Also on two wheels, the Goodwood Action Sports Arena provided the best young freestyle riders in the world with an opportunity to thrill fans with their skill and bravery, as they indulged in gravity-defying antics on a variety of pedal- and petrol-powered machinery.

The 2014 Festival was notable for a dramatically more competitive edge than in recent years. In a thrilling climax on Sunday afternoon, the quickest cars of the weekend took part in an epic shoot-out for overall honours, the title of fastest time of the weekend going to nine-times World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb in the incredible Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak car. A day earlier, the world's most expensive and outrageous supercars competed in their own shoot-out, won by young Jann Mardenborough in a Nissan GT-R. On the ever popular Forest Rally Stage, Dani Sordo in his WRC Hyundai was fastest after a spectacular duel with Loeb, back in a WRC Citroen for the Festival. In its 20th year, the Cartier ‘Style-et-Luxe’ concours d’elegance once again provided an oasis of tranquility and mouth-watering road cars, while in the skies above Goodwood Park, the Red Arrows, a Typhoon Eurofighter and a Vulcan bomber had the crowd gazing upwards in open-mouthed awe. All the action is here, so sit back and soak up the intoxicating atmosphere of another sensational Goodwood Festival of Speed.
