3/21/08 UPDATE: Simple elegance. Perhaps the best way to describe the first AAR Eagle Grand Prix car to carry the powerful Weslake V-12 engine. Chassis 102 brought All American Racers (Anglo American Racers) their first Formula One victory at Brands Hatch on March 12, 1967 - less than a year after the marque's debut race in Belgium - with team leader Dan Gurney at the controls. Now Carousel 1 has followed up their much sought after Spa and Nurburgring versions of Chassis 104 - the Titanium Eagle - with this beautifully crafted 1/18 scale replica of 102.

3/13/08 UPDATE: It's always been a challenge for 1/43 scale model collectors to display their collections in an attractive and safe manner. Customers have often commented on the 'tower' cases that we use to display our 1/43 scale Minichamps sports car models at the Gallery and at our road shows around the country.

We took those comments and suggestions, added a few of our own, then challenged our case maker JD to come up with a solution. He did not disappoint. Check out the results HERE.

Sports Car Racing In Camera 1960-69 by Paul Parker received rave reviews when it was released in Europe just before Christmas. Finally, this nostalgic look at the golden age of sports car racing is available on our side of the Pond. Filled with meticulously researched photographs from LeMans, the Targa Florio and other great venues (280 color illustrations over 240 pages), useful and insightful captions and accompanying text, this book comes highly recommended by Motor Sport magazine and others. Includes a very special Foreword by David Piper.

Our first shipment should be here by the weekend. Order now (click on the title) and we'll take 10% off the cover price of $54.95.

A review copy of 'Inside IMSA's Legendary GTP Race Cars' is available for your inspection here at TMC. 14 marques are profiled, from Lola, March and Jaguar to Nissan, Porsche and Toyota Eagle. There's even a chapter on the Kudzu. Well illustrated and informative. Our first shipment is due in mid-April. Take advantage of our 10% pre order discount (cover price $50.00) on this new book as well. .

Our Email Updates have been well received by collectors around the world. 3/5/08 UPDATE: One of the most popular sponsor liveries in the racing world is the bright orange of the German liqueur Jagermeister. Their involvement in international motorsports is profiled in this new German language book 'Jagermeister Racing: 1972 bis 2000'. With 170 color photos in 180 pages, it's a good reference book whether you speak German or not. 'Inside IMSA's Legendary GTP Race Cars' looks like it might be an interesting read. Scheduled for release in April, we should have a look at an advance copy by the weekend. Most books on the subject sell out quickly. We'll keep you advised on this one.

2/29/08 UPDATE: Since last summer, we've been promoting (and eagerly awaiting) the release of a new DVD called 'Can Am: The Speed Odyssey' ($34.95). As most of you already know, the DVD is now several months overdue, primarily due to the additional editing work needed when the planned 70 minute program expanded to 100+ minutes with the discovery of additional original footage.

A very exciting trailer for Speed Odyssey is available for viewing HERE for those of you who want a taste of the action.

Several months ago, we became aware of a second DVD on the Can Am that was in the works at another quality distributor of racing videos. We held off on offering it here until further information was available. Word of that DVD is starting to become public, so to avoid confusion with Speed Odyssey, we're listing it today and will start accepting advance orders. Just click on the title to order.

'Can Am Thunder' ($29.95), will feature author and Can Am 'Guru' Pete Lyons, driver Hurley Haywood, author/photographer Dave Friedman and Shadow and Ti22 designer Peter Bryant (who will visit TMC for a book signing on April 5. Reserve your signed copy of 'Can Am Challenger' HERE). This 80 minute program will feature interviews, tall tales, footage from recent vintage events and images from the original Can Am era. An April 28 release date has been announced but we understand editing delays may push that date back a few weeks as well. In any case, our order has been placed and we will have it in stock as soon as it becomes available.

From what we've learned about both DVDs, there will be very little duplication. The content of 'Can Am Thunder', looks like it will compliment the strong original footage content we will see in 'Can Am: The Speed Odyssey'. Those of us who are hard core Can Am fans will probably want both DVDs in our collections.

I was reluctant to offer a second Can Am DVD on a pre-order basis before delivering the first, (we all know how release dates are written in pencil in the collector world) but the timing is out of our hands. I'm looking forward to seeing both programs and, from what we're hearing, I think you will too. - PZ

4/10 Update - Still no sign of Can Am The Speed Odyssey. Latest 'promised' release date is April 25. We'll see. 'Can Am Thunder' is delayed and probably will not arrive until summer at the earliest. We'll try to keep you advised as best we can.

2/27/08 UPDATE: The latest release in the Minichamps Ayrton Senna Racing Car Collection is the long-awaited 1/43 scale 'Senna Taxi'. After winning the 1991 British Grand Prix at Silverstone driving a Williams Renault FW14, Nigel Mansell interrupted his victory lap to give friend and rival Ayrton Senna a ride back to the pits after his McLaren ran out of fuel on the final lap. The scene was immortalized by world wide television coverage and track photographers who captured the unique gesture for the ages. Minichamps has followed up it's previous 1/18 scale commemorative of that scene with this beautifully detailed 1/43 scale model ($49.95). Click HERE to order.

2/15/08 UPDATE: 'To Finish First': the autobiography of Phil Kerr, joint Managing Director of McLaren Racing during the team's glory days, has been released in New Zealand.

A shipment of author signed copies is winging it's way from Down Under and is expected to arrive at TMC in the next week or so.

Nearly 400 pages long and well illustrated with photos from the personal collections of McLaren insiders and the artwork of Michael Turner, this is the most comprehensive book yet on the McLaren Can Am, Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 programs during that era.

Phil Kerr joined boyhood friend Bruce McLaren and mentor Jack Brabham in England in the spring of 1959. During a 17 year European racing career Kerr played an essential role in the success of both the Brabham and McLaren racing teams, first as a Director of the Brabham Racing Organisation, then as joint Managing Director and Director of Formula One at McLaren Racing during the time when McLaren became one of the dominant powers in international motor racing.

Should be a great read. Reserve now.

2/14/08 UPDATE: One further update on this week's Carousel 1 new product announcement:

Their 1/18 scale replica of Dan Gurney's 1967 Race of Champions winning Eagle Weslake V-12 ($159.95) is expected to arrive in just a few weeks. Carousel 1 owner Frank Dalton confirmed to us this morning that the Eagle is scheduled for a March 2008 release. Reserve now!

Other 2008 Carousel 1 release dates have been posted HERE.

Automobile Year #55 (2007/08) is now in stock ($85.00 plus shipping). Advance orders ship today. Place your order HERE.

2/12/08 UPDATE: More new product announcements from the world of quality diecast:

Carousel 1 has announced it's lineup for 2008 and there are a couple of pleasant surprises. Their first 2008 release will be a 1/18 scale replica of Dan Gurney's 1967 Race of Champions winning Eagle Weslake V-12 ($159.95). On March 12, 1967 Gurney, driving the first Formula One Eagle to be fitted with the Weslake V-12 engine - Chassis 102 - won the Daily Mail Race of Champions at Brands Hatch ahead of Lorenzo Bandini's Ferrari V-12.

The aluminum chassis predecessor to the titanium Eagle that would win the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa a few months later dominated the event, winning Pole Position, both 10 lap heats and the 40 lap feature race. Although it was a non-points race, it was first F1 victory for the All American Racers team, coming less than a year after the first Eagle-Climax made it's debut .

On the schedule for late 2008 will be the 1984 Indianapolis 500 winning Penske Racing Pennzoil March of Rick Mears ($159.95) in 1/18 scale. This is the first release of a 1980s vintage Indy car from Carousel 1. We hope to see a lot more in the future.

Also on the Carousel 1 agenda after an absence of several years is a return to their series of 1/18 scale Corvettes and additional Kurtis, Indy Eagle and Laydown Roadster releases.

We're taking advance orders for the entire lineup. Complete information has been posted HERE.

2/8/08 UPDATE: This morning our mailbox was filled with notes written by fellow open wheel race fans who are excited by the developments reported by Robin Miller on SpeedTV.com last night. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

2/7/08 UPDATE: Exciting news out of Germany this morning. CMC's 2008 new product announcement includes not one, but two iconic Ferrari racing cars: Above, the Ferrari Dino 156 F1 'Sharknose' driven by Phil Hill to the 1961 World Championship. Below, the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa as driven to victory at LeMans by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien in 1958. Also making its debut on CMC's product line is the 1964 Porsche 911 (901) Coupe. New versions of their Mercedes-Benz W165 and Auto Union Type C round out the agenda for 2008. No estimated release dates yet. We'll post additional information as it becomes available.

Here's CMC's New Product Announcement. For better or worse, we've edited the English version of the Announcement to make it a bit more understandable (we hope). We are accepting advance orders for the entire range. Just click on the Item No next to the model you wish to reserve.

2/5/08 UPDATE: Martini and Rossi sponsored racing cars have been decorated with some of the most beautiful paint schemes in international racing history. The Martini sponsored Porsche 908/3s that raced in 1970 and 1971 were no exception.

Auto Art's long awaited 1/18 scale Porsche 908/3s are (finally) here, including the #4 Martini Porsche, driven by Gijs van Lennep and Helmut Marko that raced at the Nurburgring in 1971, pictured above.

The Gulf liveried #2 Derek Bell / Jo Siffert 908/3 also from the 1971 Nurburgring 1000k is in stock as well, along with the Redman/Siffert #7 as raced at the 1971 Targa Florio. All back orders have shipped and all three models are in stock for immediate delivery. $119.95 each plus shipping.

Check out all three on the New Diecast Page or click on the links above to order.

1/30/08 UPDATE: Perhaps one of the most beautful racing cars of all time was the Ferrari 330 P4 campaigned by the Scuderia Ferrari in the 1967 World Sports Car Championship. Real Art Replicas has announced a giant 1/8 scale ultra high detail P4 for release this spring: The open - top P4 driven to a second place finish at Brands Hatch (behind the Chaparral 2F) by Jackie Stewart and Chris Amon. Their finish clinched the 1967 World Championship for Ferrari, beating Porsche by just one point. The giant P4s are priced at $3.995.00 and will be produced in a Limited Edition of 330. We have additional photos HERE. Give us a call if you have any questions. You can place an order HERE.

We understand 1/18 scale P4s will be announced by GMP for release later this year. Watch this space.

While we patiently await the arrival of 'Can Am: A Speed Odyssey' (due early March - now 100 minutes long, an increase of a full half hour with no price increase), other items of interest to Can Am junkies are also on the horizion: Eoin Young' s biography of Denny Hulme 'Memories of the Bear' ($34.95) is finally due to arrive in the US in mid-February. A sample copy is available for browsing here at TMC. Eoin, as you probably recall, was with the McLaren team back in the 'glory days' and has previously written biographies of fellow New Zealanders Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. Both are available at TMC.

This morning, Minichamps announced more than 300 new models that they intend to produce over the next 6 months to 2 years. We've posted the entire list (minus estimated release dates) HERE and will accept advance orders for everything.

1/25/08 UPDATE: The latest release from Spark is this accurately presented Silk Cut TWR Jaguar XJR-8 as campaigned at LeMans in 1987 ($46.95). New arrivals from Minichamps this week include the Michele Alboreto and Danny Sullivan Tyrrell Ford 012s as raced in 1983 ($39.95) and the 2007 Formula One cars of Robert Kubica and Giancarlo Fisichella ($39.95 each). Photos of everything are on the New Diecast Page or you can click on the links here to order directly from our Online Shopping feature.

Other new models are expected today. Their photos will be added on Monday.

In early 2007, work began on a definitive documentary charting the remarkable life of the first Brit to capture the World Rally Championship, Colin McRae. During a hectic year, McRae granted unprecidented access including candid interviews about his career and life. This footage was combined with extensive archive film of McRae in action in World Rally, LeMans, the X-Games, the Isle of Man and the Dakar Rally. Filming continued up until McRae's tragic death in a helicopter accident last summer. Presented by McRae's friend and biographer Derick Allsop, 'Colin McRae: Rally Legend' is the complete story of this remarkably talented man. Now in stock $29.95.

The other day, we mentioned that we would be adding some 'one of a kind' items to the Online Shopping section. These items will be listed under the Private Collection segment of the Memorabilia section. A few great items were added on Thursday. Look for more next week!

Also added to Online Shopping: A complete listing of the Michael Turner Christmas and Note Cards from our inventory has been uploaded to the Artwork section. Looking to fill gaps in your collection? We have most sets going back to 1988 in stock

1/23/08 UPDATE: Pictured above is a very rare ceramic cigarette box produced for Porsche by Ulmer Keramik in the mid 1950s. It is decorated by a list of races and championships won by Porsche in their early years. It is in excellent condition. $495.00 plus shipping.

We've posted some additional photos HERE.

To purchase, give us a call or click HERE.

Watch this space for more 'one of a kind' items in the next few days.

The sequel to Phil Berg's popular 'Ultimate Garages' is now in stock ($34.95). Among the spectacular car barns profiled in 'Ultimate Garages II' is the suburban Chicago collection of John and Lisa Weinberger of Continental Motors. Click HERE to order.

1/21/08 UPDATE: Today we spotlight two forthcoming 1/18 scale models; Kyosho's 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (above) and CMC's Limited Edition Mercedes-Benz W25 in brilliant German Racing White (below).

It is said that Kyosho has lost their sub-license from Mattel to produce Ferrari die cast which has generated a lot of excitement around their 1/18 scale replica of the 250 GTO, perhaps the most beautiful and iconic Ferrari sports car ever produced. It may be the last Ferrari miniature from Kyosho, which may lead to shortages and or increased collectability. Kyosho must release this model (and all previously announced Ferraris, we assume) by May 1. Production in both Red and Black has been announced and we've reserved a small quantity of both versions. Price is $117.95 each. The photo above is of an early prototype. We've put up a page of additional photos of the prototype along with updated photos of the wheels and front end detail. Click HERE to order.

The latest from CMC is the Limited Edition (3000) 1/18 scale Mercedes-Benz W25 as it left the factory in 1934, freshly painted in Germany's national racing color - white. When the Mercedes team arrived at the Nurburgring for the first race of the season, it was discovered that the new W25 weighed slightly more than the rules allowed. The white paint was removed and the next day the car was driven to victory in its bare metal finish by Manfred von Brauchitsch, becoming the first of the legendary 'Silver Arrows'.

The White W25 is 'on the water' and is due to arrive here in the US in mid-February. Priced at $211.00, which is significantly below CMC's most recent offerings, this piece should sell out as quickly as previously released Limited Editions. Click HERE to order.

1/18/08 UPDATE: Happy New Year!

We've spent the past few weeks recovering from the Holiday rush, adding items from our inventory (almost a thousand so far!) to the new Online Shopping side of the website and working to merge some of our new features into existing sections to make your experience here at www.MotorsportCollector.com easier without losing the comfortable feel of the old site.

For example, on our Die Cast New Arrival page, we've replaced the old 'Secure Order Form' links under each new model with 'Click to Order' links that will take you directly to that item's entry in Online Shopping. Once there, you can put the model in your Shopping Cart, click back to the New Arrival page and continue browsing. As time goes by, we will be adding this feature to other sections of the original side of the website.

We'll probably be adding stuff to the Online Shopping section every day for the rest of the winter. Those of you who have been to our shop in Downers Grove will know why!

Here's some information on some thing's we've been working on:

CanAm: A Speed Odyssey: By far the most anticipated new arrival here at TMC in quite some time. Producer Robert Nevison now tells us that he expects to release his DVD in early to mid February. After uncovering more film footage that was originally thought to exist, Nevison has been working seven days a week assembling what is sure to be a mind blower. From the 70 minutes of coverage originally promised, we're now told the program has grown to a full 100 minutes of full color, original, Unlimited Sports Car footage without an increase in the $34.95 retail price. If you haven't done so already, check out the Sneak Preview. Order HERE.

Watch our Email Updates for some exciting news about some other Can Am related items we're working on!

Motor Sport Calendars: A small quantity of the Limited Edition 2008 Motor Sport Magazine calendars (1000 numbered copies) are expected to arrive next week (better late than never!). This year, the theme is 'The Magic of Monaco' and the large format (23.76" x 16.8") wall calendar features 13 specially selected Rainer Schlegelmilch photos printed in black & white on high quality 250gsm art paper. Featured drivers include Jim Clark, Graham Hill, John Surtees, Jackie Stewart and Lewis Hamilton. At $75.00 plus shipping, they're a bit pricey, but at year end you are left with 13 framable photo images by one of the greatest photographers in motor racing. Sounds like a bargain. Order HERE.

Automobile Year #55 (2007/08): Our first shipment of the new Automobile Year is due to arrive by the end of the month. $85.00 Reserve now . Only a few copies remain from this shipment. Order HERE.

Last Call: Two of 2007's most popular books are very close to selling out: Jim Clark: Life at Team Lotus and Dan Gurney's Eagle Racing Cars. Both are sure to be in very tight hands when they sell out, so you've been warned!

We'll have more for you next week. If you have any comments (good or bad) about our new format and the new features here at www.MotorsportCollector.com please drop me an email and let me know.
