6/22/11 UPDATE: The second of three 1/43 scale Scarabs announced by Spark in 2010 is scheduled to arrive here at TMC early next week. It's in the livery of Chuck Daigh's 1958 Riverside Grand Prix winner. In only its second year, the LA Times Grand Prix at Riverside was already one of the most important sports car races in the United States, drawing the world's top drivers and more than 100,000 spectators. Daigh's Reventlow Scarab, powered by Chevrolet, finished ahead of second place Phil Hill's Ferrari 412 and teammate Lance Reventlow's Scarab Mk II. Other notable drivers in the top ten were Dan Gurney, John von Neumann, Max Balchowsky, Roy Salvadori, Richie Ginther and Jerry Unser. Also in the field were Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, Bobby Unser, Jim Rathman, Pete Lovely, Troy Ruttman, Bill Krause, Ak Miller, Masten Gregory and Jean Behra.

Spark's previous Scarab release, Lance Revenltow's Scarab in 1958 Santa Barbara trim, has been one of the most popular 1/43 scale models we've seen in some time. Only a few remain.

6/13/11 UPDATE: June 1961 was a very good month for Phil Hill.

50 Years ago last weekend, Phil scored his second of his three victories in the 24 Hours of LeMans. A week later, he led a 1-2-3-4 Ferrari finish in the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps driving the iconic 'Sharknose' Ferrari 156.

In the early 90s, English artist Graham Turner (son of Michael Turner) did a painting to commemorate the Spa victory. Phil saw the painting at our trackside exhibition at Road Atlanta that spring and graciously agreed to sign an edition of prints for us. Only a few remain. See above.

5/24/11 UPDATE: For our Chicago area collectors: We are pleased to announce that Motor Sport Magazine is available for pick-up at TMC once again. Since the US distribution point is just a few miles north at ORD, we should have our copies before most other dealers and subscribers. Stop by and grab a copy!

5/12/11 UPDATE: We've been impressed with recent 1/18 scale Hot Wheels Elite releases, so when we saw these two classic Ferrari 250LMs, we had to add them to our lineup. On the left, the John Mecom entered Mark Donohue / Walt Hansgen 250LM in 1965 Sebring trim. On the right, the 1964 Reims 12 Hour winner, driven by Graham Hill and Jo Bonnier. $99.99 each. We'll have them next week. - 5/19 UPDATE: IN STOCK!

4/27/11 UPDATE: Nicholas Watts' latest giclee offering 'Awaiting the Day' has arrived and I must say photos do not do this powerful image justice. It is a prime example of how the giclee process has revolutionized printmaking. It was virtually impossible to achieve the boldness and intense saturation of color using the 'standard' litho process. Our first shipment is spoken for. A few orders have been shipped but we are 'Awaiting' the arrival of larger shipping tubes to ship the balance. Also shown here is the signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity, which features signing photos of the 4 Wood Brothers and designer Len Terry.

4/26/11 UPDATE: After a very quiet month, Spark has opened the floodgates and about 30 new models are due to arrive in a few days. Included in the shipment is the Jo Siffert Porsche 917 PA Can Am Car and several restocks from their 2010 LeMans series. Cars like the Drayson Lola Coupe and Lola Rebellion Coupe disappeared in a heartbeat when they were first released last fall. Also inbound are some great new Porsches and Nissans in 1/18 scale from Auto Art and some new releases from Fujimi and Truescale. We've put everything on our new Spring 2011 New Release page.

4/14/11 UPDATE: Good news from CMC this afternoon. Their 1/18 Bugatti Atlantic Coupe in Blue is due to arrive in the US later this week. We have a few pieces available from our initial shipment and we are offering them at an introductory price of $329.40, which is 10% off CMC's suggested retail price of $366.00. All advance orders will be filled at the introductory price.

Reserve HERE for late April delivery.

We've posted an extensive photo set of this exquisite beauty HERE. Check it out!

4/14/11 UPDATE: Introducing a new Limited Edition Giclee Print by Nicholas A. Watts: 'Awaiting the Day' depicts the Len Terry designed Team Lotus 38 - Fords of Jim Clark and Bobby Johns at rest in Gasoline Alley the night before the 1965 Indianapolis 500.

On race day, Jim Clark drove the #82 Lotus to victory by two full laps, leading all but 10 in the process. A key to Clark's success was the lightning fast pit work of the Wood Brothers, who were brought in from NASCAR to assist with the factory Ford effort.

A Limited Edition of 38 numbered Giclee prints. Each copy signed by the Artist, by designer Len Terry and the four Wood Brothers: Leonard, Glen, Ray and Delano. SOLD OUT.

3/01/11 UPDATE: Bizarre's 1/43 scale resin replica of Art Arfons' 'Green Monster' in its 1965 Land Speed Record configuration is due to land later this week. Arfons and the 'Green Monster' broke 'Spirit of America - Sonic 1' and Craig Breedlove's 5 day old Land Speed Record with a blistering 576.553 mph run at the Bonneville Salt Flats on November 7, 1965. Breedlove returned to post a 600 mph speed just 8 days later to finish the most dramatic duel in LSR history.

Previous LSR releases from Bizarre have been quick sell-outs.

2/24/11 UPDATE: EUREKA! After months of behind the scenes drama, unexplained delays, intense governmental scrutiny, a language barrior and a possible hernia, our initial shipment of 'Encyclopedia LeMans: 1923-2010' has arrived. All copies are spoken for and will begin shipping after suitable packaging can be purchased (they weigh in at 23+ pounds each). A second order has been placed and is expected to arrive from France in 2-3 weeks. We are taking reservations at $500 per set plus the shipping cost from Downers Grove. Thanks to everyone who placed orders and h ave been incredibly patient while this process played out.

1/27/11 UPDATE: New arrivals from TrueScale Miniatures include the Dan Gurney Porsche 804 from their Signature Series ($100..00) and the Paul Newman, PLN Racing Datsun 510 ($60.00). Watch this space for more TrueScale news in the next few days.

1/15/11 UPDATE: Check out this dramatic new giclee print from Nicholas Watts:

'ME AND MY SHADOW' by Nicholas A. Watts
A Limited Edition of 25 Giclee Prints

Each copy signed by

VIC ELFORD & DON NICHOLS

Perhaps the most radical design to take to the track during the 'anything goes' Can Am series was the original AVS Shadow, penned by Trevor Harris for Don Nichols' Advanced Vehicle Systems and driven - just once - by one of the most versatile drivers of the era, Englishman Vic Elford.

After a less than successful debut with George Follmer behind the wheel, 'Quick Vic' drove a redesigned, low profile AVS Shadow in the 1970 Mid Ohio Can Am until vibrations caused by the loss of wheel weights made driving the already nervous machine virtually impossible. After Vic's hasty exit, the 'roller skate' was retired and designer Peter Bryant was brought on board to lead the reborn Shadow team to better days. Still, the original AVS Shadow remains one of the most innovative and talked about machines of that celebrated era.

This dramatic Nicholas Watts image is being produced in a strict limited edition of just 25 giclee prints on 300 gram paper. Each print measrues approximately 27.7" x 18" and is hand signed by both Vic Elford and Don Nichols and is also signed and numbered by the Artist. Signing photographs will be printed on a Certificate of Authenticity.

Available early February 2011.

1/11/11 UPDATE: If you've tried to place an order using the US Postal Service on our Shopping Cart website the past couple of days and have gotten a total that was more like air fare than postage - or no Postal option at all - the problem has been corrected. Looks like the USPS adjusted price catagories on the database that interfaces with our software (without notice, of course). After hearing from several stunned customers from the Great White North, Jeff was able to track down the problem and fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

1/4/11 UPDATE: Another 'sneak peak' - this one from TrueScale Miniatures. The elegant 1/43 Limited Edition (750) Dan Gurney signed Porsche Type 804 from their Signature Collection is 'on the water' and should arrive soon. You can still reserve one for $100 plus shipping HERE.

12/30/10 UPDATE: Five years after the original publishing date, Susan Watkins' biography of Bernie Ecclestone has finally been released. Bernie withdrew his 'Authorized Biography' endorsement before release, either to sell more copies or to hint that he doesn't care for the content. We'll see. Early reviews say it's the most revealing book on Bernie to date. Available here at TMC in mid-January. $39.95. Reserve HERE.

12/23/10 UPDATE: The latest arrival from TrueScale is this Fujimi Resin Collection Ferrari 312 T4 as driven by Jody Scheckter to the 1979 Formula One World Championship. Mounted on a plaque with a metal plate signed by Scheckter, this is a nice memento for just $154.00. Limited Edition of 750. In stock as of today, order HERE.

The Gurney Porsche is the next TrueScale piece to be released. We expect shipment right after the new year. Have you reserved one yet? Click HERE.

12/22/10 UPDATE: CMC's LImited Edition (4000) 1/18 scale replica of the 'other' Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe is scheduled for release early in the new year. $348.00 plus shipping. We've posted addition photos HERE. You can reserve one HERE.

12/18/10 UPDATE: CMC is pleased to announce the release of C-007, the Ferrari Dino 156 F1 "Sharknose" in 1:12 scale. In 1961, Phil Hill, driving a Sharknose for the Ferrari team, became the first American F1 World Champion.

This hand-assembled model is made of 1,945 single parts. It is an authentic replica of the winning car of Phil Hill crowned at the GP-Belgium in Spa on the 18th of June 1961. We used only materials of the finest quality for this model, including copper, aluminium, stainless steel, cloth and leather. You will find countless detail-exact features in this model, such as removable spoke wheels, a true-to-the-original wheel suspension, and authentically-replicated shock absorbers and coil springs. The rear axle drive shafts, with functional cardan joints, rotate when the rear wheels are turning. This rotation causes the perforated clutch bell housing to turn in sync with the drive shafts.

Limited to only 500 pieces worldwide, this magnificent replica will make a treasured collector's item. $3,498.00. Reserve HERE.

11/26/10 UPDATE: Back in August, we discussed the possibility of a 2011 Can Am Calendar with Can Am Guru Pete Lyons. It's good news for all of us that Pete decided to dig into his extensive archives for 13 spectacular color and b&w images from that unforgettable era and produced this 11 x 17 wall calendar on 100 lb cover stock. Our shipment is due in about a week.

SOLD OUT - MORE IN JANUARY????

There are 200 Porsche models in the collection, a large selection of LeMans winners, Senna Collection models, McLaren F1GTRs, Indy Cars and other very, very interesting stuff. 9/30/10 UPDATE Next week, 'SHUNT: The Story of James Hunt' will be released in the UK. We have made arrangements to have a shipment of First Edition copies sent directly to TMC upon its release.

Written by Tom Rubython, the author of the acclaimed 'The Life of Senna', this 600+ page epic tells the complete story of the charismatic 1976 Formula One World Champion.

Here are the details:

James Hunt is remembered more for his girlfriends and wild personal exploits than for his skills in a race car. But the excesses of his glamorous life cannot hide the fact that he was, in many people's opinion, the fastest driver on the Formula One circuits in the 1970's. In an era dominated by the likes of Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson, Hunt stood out in terms of raw speed and his seemingly effortless ability to plant a Formula One car on pole position. In this first full and comprehensive account of the life of James Hunt, the author and his researchers have examined every detail of the driver's life - from his very earliest days to the last hours of his existence - as well as the lives of the people he left behind. It is a story many have tried to tell - but never in such a complete way. This is that story.

That weekend, Button clinched his first World Championship and Brawn became the first marque to win the F1 Constructors title in their first season.

Also due are several unique models from Spark and Bizarre including the Bugatti Monge airplane, the British Steam Car LSR (sold out), the Colibri Off Shore race boat and several LeMans, Daytona and F1 race cars.

Check out the full lineup HERE.

8/17/10 UPDATE: Back from a quick trip to Laguna Seca to participate in the celebration of Dan Gurney's many contributions to motor racing. Check out our photo album on the TMC Facebook page. While we were there, we met up with some TMC customers, suppliers and future suppliers (subscribe to our Email Updates to stay up to date with new products). We'd like to thank Pete Lyons and Peter Harholdt for signing bookplates to be installed in their new book 'Can Am Cars in Detail' ($99.95 order HERE) just released by David Bull Publishing. We will begin shipping this new title later this week. There are still a few signed bookplate copies available at no additional charge. Watch for other signed book offers in the next few months.

A quick turnaround this week. See you at Road America this weekend!

8/3/10 UPDATE: A spectacular new book featuring Can Am cars like you've never seen them before will be introduced at next weekend's Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca:

'Can-Am Cars in Detail' will feature 22 surviving Group 7 Can Am cars artistically presented by the brilliant studio photography of Peter Harholdt and discussed in a vivid, authoritative text by the foremost expert on the Can Am, Pete Lyons.

A wide variety of marques is represented in this book. From the dominant McLarens and Porsches to the Lolas, Shadows and Chaparrals that challenged them on a regular basis. There are also interesting cars from Caldwell, Genie, McKee and Ferrari along with two examples of the ingenuity of Dan Gurney's All American Racers.

The expertise and quality demanded by David Bull Publishing allows Harholdt's impressive color photographs to bring to life every component of these sometimes brutal but always innovative and beautiful machines. And as he has done before, Pete Lyons draws on his extensive Can Am background to put each car in perspective, whether or not you saw them racing back in the day.

SIGNED COPIES - SOLD OUT
Both Pete Lyons and Peter Harholdt have graciously agreed to sign bookplates for us at the launch of their great new book at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca next weekend. Bull Publishing has advised us that we will have delivery here at TMC in late August. These signed copies will be available at no extra charge, first come, first served.

Also, Peter Harholdt is planning the release of a portfolio of prints from his photographs in 'Can-Am Cars in Detail'.

Watch this space for details.

7/19/10 UPDATE: Just back from Road America, where we took delivery of author-signed copies of two new books: 'Mark Donohue: His Life in Photographs' and 'Team Lotus: The Formula One Cars'. Many thanks to Michael Argetsinger for giving us so much time during his busy weekend to sign and date copies for TMC customers in our tent (during a downpour!). Also thanks to Jo & William Taylor and Steve & Michelle Gesseor for their assistance in getting the Team Lotus books to us at RA.

We'll be unpacking the trailer and shipping advance orders for these books over the next few days.

A couple bits of news first: CMC's long awaited Mercedes Benz Uhlenhaut Coupe has arrived in the US. And - our first shipment of the Jackie Stewart scrapbook (profiled below) will be shipped to us from the UK in the next few days. The first shipment is sold out. We are accepting orders for delivery later this summer.

Last but not least, congratulations to Paul Powell for organizing an unforgettable Mark Donohue Reunion at RA last weekend. Paul spent at least a year making sure the gathering of the right cars and people were there. It was spectacular!

COLLAGE: SIR JACKIE STEWART'S GRAND PRIX ALBUM

A Limited Edition of 1500 copies worldwide.
Each numbered copy signed by Sir Jackie Stewart
Foreword by His Serene Highness Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco

'Beginning with some mementos from my shooting days in the Fifties, that were donated by my mother, my wife Helen carefully chronicled every last detail of my career up until my retirement as a racing driver in 1973. It is a truly intimate portrait that shows the real side of the sometimes unreal life that Helen and I were both leading at the time'

- Sir Jackie Stewart

7/1/10 UPDATE: Throughout her husband's racing career, Helen Stewart kept a scrapbook of photographs, press clippings and memorabilia from the 3 time World Champion Jackie Stewart.

Over time, the scrapbook expanded to 17 volumes!

COLLAGE is a 208 page version of Helen Stewart's scrapbook, superbly reproduced with an English printer founded in 1845. Using the latest oxidising inks on premium, heavyweight, uncoated art paper, the book's pages are then bound by hand at an artisan bookbindery in Scotland.

Each book features gilded page edging and hand-tooled decorative work blocked in gold leaf. The robust leather half-binding is presented in a hand-crafted slipcase inspired by Sir Jackie's crash helmet. The case is finished with silk-laminated paper, gold-foiling and a Royal Stewart tartan band.

A complimentary DVD is included with each copy of COLLAGE. It includes a short video story by Lady Helen Stewart, an audio visual montage of friends and peers speaking about Sir Jackie and a music video for 'Fly Free' - a single written and recorded by Paul and Mark Stewart in their father's honor, featuring Eric Clapton.
