In 1989, we began publication of a
series of Limited Edition prints honoring the great cars and drivers
in road racing history. To create the artwork for this series,
TMC commissioned a legend in the motorsport art world, Michael
Turner, for several new paintings as well as a reprint of his
classic study of Dan Gurney at Spa, 'The Eagle Flies'. Michael's
talented son Graham was also commissioned for a RRL print to feature
America's first World Champion, Phil Hill.
In the summer of 1997, TMC published
it's most innovative and ambitious project yet; 'The
Autumn Thunder Portfolio' with Michael Turner. The Portfolio
required 5 pieces of original Turner artwork, a gouache on board
painting for the 'Centerpiece' print along with four pencil drawings
released as the 'Autumn Thunder Sketches'. Together, the 5 print
set offers a unique chronicle of the 1967 Road America Can Am
and the beginning of Team McLaren's domination of that classic
series.
