In 1965, Jim Clark became the first and
only driver in history to win both the Indianapolis 500 and the
World Driving Championship in a single season. On May 31, Clark
drove his Lotus 38 Ford to victory at Indianapolis, leading 190
of 200 laps and setting a new record of 150.686 mph for the 500
miles. It was the first Indy 500 win for a rear engined car.
