FORD 4-CAM DIRT CHAMP CAR

- 1974 USAC NATIONAL DIRT TRACK CHAMPION -

In 1974, Mario Andretti won the USAC National Dirt Track Championship driving the Vel's Parnelli Jones Special powered by the powerful Ford 4-Cam engine.

The Vel's Parnelli Jones Ford powered 'Superteam' dominated the dirt in the early 70's. Al Unser won every dirt track race in his 1970 USAC Championship winning season. A separate National Dirt Track Championship began in 1971 and Big Al won the prestigious 'Hoosier Hundred' in the Johnny Lighting Special. Al won 2 of 3 Dirt Track Championship races in '72 but lost the championship on points to A.J. Foyt. The 'Superteam' won all 3 races in 1973 - Mario winning two to Al's one, but Al took home the Championship.

1974 was Mario's year. In his last season racing on dirt, Andretti won 3 of the 5 races and finished second and third in the other two to claim the USAC National Dirt Car Championship just 4 years before dominating Formula One in the same fashion to become World Champion.

GMP has produced the Vel's Parnelli Jones Ford 4 Cam Special driven by Mario Andretti to the 1974 National Dirt Car Championship in a very Limited Edition of 700.
