John Surtees - 1966 Can Am Champion

John Surtees is the only man to win World Championships on two as well as four wheels, claiming 7 World Motorcycle Championships before turning his attention to Formula One and sports cars. Surtees won the 1964 Formula One World Championship for Ferrari and excelled in sports car racing, becoming the first Can Am Champion in 1966 driving this Team Surtees Lola T-70. Two versions of this car have been produced in very exclusive limited editions by GMP Peachstate.

1966 St. Jovite Can Am Winner Limited Edition of 2,504

The first-ever Can Am race was held at St. Jovite, Quebec on September 11, 1966. It was won by John Surtees in his Team Surtees Lola T70. It was the only event in the 6 race series that fall that Surtees wore #3. He switched to #7 for the rest of the season, and became the first Can Am Champion that year.

Amelia Island Limited Edition of 1,500

The 1966 Can Am Championship winning Lola T-70 has been reproduced in a Limited Edition of just 1,500 models, and packaged as his 1967 car, to commemorate a rare US appearance by John Surtees as Grand Marshall of the Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance held at the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Florida and as a tribute to Surtees's career in motor racing.
