ALAN FEARNLEY RARE PRINTS

SUNSET AT LeMANS by Alan Fearnley
130 / 850
Signed by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell
The field of motor racing artwork took
a major step forward in the early 1980's when English artist Alan
Fearnley teamed up with David Mills of Grand Prix Sportique to
publish limited edition prints hand-signed by some of the world's
top racing drivers.
Their first offering, 'Sunset at LeMans'
featured the Rothmans Porsche 956s that finished 1-2 in the 1983
running of the 24 Hours of Lemans. Each copy of 'Sunset at LeMans'
was hand signed by LeMans Champions Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell.
Originally selling for less than $100, 'Sunset at LeMans' has
become one of the most valuable and sought after racing prints
in the world today. As a private collector, I was excited by the
concept and sent away to England for a copy. A
year later, I formed The Motorsport Collector and became Grand
Prix Sportique's first US Dealer.

Fearnley and GPS followed up the success
of 'Sunset at LeMans' with 'McLaren's
Supremacy', signed by two of the greatest drivers in Formula
One history; World Champions Niki Lauda and Alain Prost. Another
McLaren print, 'World Champion',
followed soon after, this one signed by Lauda, designer John Barnard
and Team McLaren owner Ron Dennis.
The series of Fearnley prints from
GPS has continued for nearly 20 years, with the signatories reading
like a 'Who's Who' of The Sport. Prints like 'Championship Title'
(signed by Prost), 'Heading for Victory' (signed by Sir Jack Brabham),
'Porsche Pedigree' (signed by Ferry Porsche), 'Fangio' (signed
by Juan Manuel Fangio), 'Andrettis at LeMans' (signed by Mario
Andretti), 'Fighting Finish' (signed by Nelson Piquet) and 'Fight
to the Finish' (signed by Ayrton Senna) grace the collections
of motor racing fans as well as participants around the world.
Two other significant releases from
Fearnley and GPS were 'Putting the Cat Out' and 'True Brit'.
'Putting
the Cat Out' was produced to commemorate
Porsche's victory over the Jaguar team at LeMans in 1987 and is,
in my humble opinion, one of Fearnley's finest paintings as well
as the most popular Fearnley print in TMC's history. The entire
edition was hand signed by the three winning drivers: Derek Bell,
Hans J. Stuck and the late Al Holbert. As a Christmas gift that
year, Porsche UK purchased framed copies for each of it's British
dealers. TWR Jaguar Team leader Tom Walkinshaw, also a Porsche
dealer, was said to be less than enthusiastic about his gift that
year!
'True Brit' was pubished to commemorate Nigel Mansell's triumph
in the 1986 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. The Williams Honda
FW11s of Mansell and Piquet are shown heading past the start-finish
line and down into Paddock Bend. Each copy was signed by 'Our
Nige' and the edition was a quick sell out.
Alan Fearnley is well known for his
remarqued prints. A remarque is a small pencil sketch, hand-drawn by
the artist in the border area of the print. These are usually
made to order and quite rare. Four of the five prints offered
here carry original remarques and the matching issue number of
777/850. Each is double-matted and framed with a handsome dark
wood moulding.
The above extremely rare Alan Fearnley
Limited Edition Prints are being offered as follows:
McLarens Supremacy: SOLD
World Champion: SOLD
True Brit: $795.00
