On March 12, 1967, Dan
Gurney, driving the first Formula One Eagle to be fitted with
the Weslake V-12 engine - Chassis 102 - won the Daily Mail Race
of Champions at Brands Hatch ahead of Lorenzo Bandini's Ferrari
V-12.
The aluminum chassis predecessor
to the titanium Eagle that would win the Belgian Grand Prix at
Spa a few months later dominated the event, winning Pole Position,
both 10 lap heats and the 40 lap feature race. Although it was
a non-points race, it was first F1 victory for the All American
Racers team, coming less than a year after the first Eagle-Climax
made it's debut.
