A memo from Minichamps regarding the long-lost 1999 BAR models was circulated in Europe in mid-May. Here are some highlights:
"We are very pleased to confirm that the 99 BAR cars will finally be released in June. We have frequently been asked for more information concerning these highly collectible models in 1/18 scale and 1/43 scale. They are probably the most attractive models that Paul's Model Art have ever produced."
"There has been a lot of enquiries for the 1999 BAR Presentation Car because of its attractive design and colours. Minichamps have today announced that they will no longer be making the BAR 1999 test car versions and presentation versions. Instead one model only will be produced in a very limited production format. This will be the BAR 99 Launch Version in blue without driver figure."
We expect the Launch
Version to be produced in the original blue livery that was on
the car for it's first shakedown runs. The Autosport photos on
this page illustrate that short-lived design.
We don't know the reason that the other versions have been cancelled, but we suspect that Action (Minichamps) has lost the BAR license. Various rumors have been floating about, most of which probably have some truth to them.
As we have stated previously, we understand that 'race versions' of the 99 BAR models will not be available through US distributors. In any case, if Minichamps ever does release them, we will do what ever is necessary to fill our orders. Latest word is that they will be released this month, but until the cars are in our hands, we can't say anything definate.
Since the story keeps changing every few weeks, we're not cancelling any orders yet. When the time comes when we think delivery is imminent, we will reconfirm with those of you who have pre-orders with TMC.
We will take new orders on the BAR Launch Car (1/18 and 1/43) and the two 'Zipper' cars of Villeneuve and Zonta (99 Race Cars) in both 1/18 and 1/43 scale, but can't confirm pricing until the cars are actually produced.
In the mean time, check back here for the latest news. Please don't call, you might get an earfull.
