2000 National Model and Hobby Show

bbbGMP

One of the most exciting displays at the Chicago Show featured 1/18 and 1/12 scale sports racers scheduled for 2000 and 2001 release by GMP/Peachstate. GMP has released two highly acclaimed Lola T-70 roadsters already this year and their first McLaren M8 (seen above) and Lola T-70 Coupe will ship this month.

For 2001 three new Lola T-70's have been announced, including these two John Surtees cars from the 1966 Can Am Series. The number 3 car on the left commemorates Surtees's victory in the first ever Canadian American Challenge Cup race at St. Jovite on September 11, 1966. Surtees wore number 7 for the balance of the season, scoring victories at Riverside and Las Vegas on his way to the first ever Can Am Championship.

The way we understand it, the number 3 car will be GMP's 'production' Surtees car while the number 7 has been designated the 'Amelia Island' version. Surtees will be honored as the Grand Marshall at the 2001 Amelia Island Concours in March and some of this special run will be used as trophies for Concours participants. Rest assured that TMC will have access to both versions, but since production may be limited on the number 7, we recommend that you reserve yours early.

The third Lola T-70 scheduled for 2001 release is Penske Racing's Sunoco Special as driven by Mark Donohue to the 1967 US Road Racing Championship. Donohue also contested the 1967 Can Am Series in this car.

Release dates are not clear at this time. We understand there will be a $10 - $15 price increase from the first few GMP Lolas, but even at that level these models are severely underpriced. We will keep you advised.

Meanwhile, enjoy the additional photos below. We'll talk about the rest of GMP's 2001 line-up HERE.
