SOLD OUT11/28/06 UPDATE: The 1/18 scale 'Rothmans' Porsche 956L has arrived from Minichamps. As you can see, there are no phony 'Racing' markings on this model. You can view the full photo set HERE. Although it's very frustrating for collectors world wide, tobacco logos are considered advertising and no longer permitted on models of this type. However, this is a fine model and an important victory for Porsche - the first win for the 956/962. And, most collectors are quite resourceful in matters such as these. Shipping today. $79.95.

11/27/06 UPDATE: If you subscribe to our weekly Email Updates or
downloaded a copy of our 2006
Holiday Newsletter over the weekend, you got a heads up on
the release of Minichamps's new 1/18 scale 1982 LeMans winning
Porsche 956L a few days ago. We were made aware of the release
just before Thanksgiving. Official photos are not available but
we are told that while the appropriate 'Rothmans' decals are not
part of this model's livery, due to the ban on tobacco advertising,
the car has been left 'blank' and does not have the innacuate
'Racing' logos as did the previously released 1983 LeMans winner.
What you do with this model when you get it home is your own business.
Our shipment is due to arrive on Tuesday and we will post (and
email to subscribers) photos of the actual model as soon as they
arrive. Reserve now at $79.95 plus shipping.

With a fine accompanying text by racing historian Doug Nye, this book would make a perfect gift for anyone who loves fine automobiles. 232 page. $60.00 plus shipping.

UPDATE: Those of you who have
Showtime may have caught this excellent documentary on the Baja
1000 recently. We did, and were so impressed that we immediately
added 'Dust to Glory' ($14.99) to our DVD selection.
Written, Directed and Narrated by Dana Brown, the son of Bruce Brown, who a generation or two ago brought us classics like 'On Any Sunday' and 'The Endless Summer', 'Dust To Glory' is one of the most exciting racing documentaries we've ever seen. Brown's extensive use of on-board and helicopter footage not only show the intense action of this grueling race but captures the rugged magnificence of Mexico's Baja Peninsula as well, if not better than anything you'll ever see on the Travel Channel. A dramatic soundtrack adds to the excitement and tension of the racing scenes and interviews with the stars as well as unsung Baja 1000 stalwards tell the fascinating story of this relatively obscure event and show the raw courage and endurance required to compete - especially on two wheels!
'Dust To Glory' also includes vintage footage of previous Baja races. Early competitors included Parnelli Jones, Steve McQueen and James Garner
The Special Features (stuff you won't see on cable TV) may be even better. They include a salute to Bruce Brown, a behind the scenes look at the making of 'Dust To Glory' and uncut versions of some of the film's most spectacular sequences, including one 2 wheeled competitor's high speed beach 'shortcut' along the Pacific coast, captured by one of Brown's helicopter crews, and a 115mph motorcycle slalom through traffic and dirt roads by a racer - and a cameraman trying to keep up.
Cool stuff.
'Dust To Glory' is perhaps the most breathtaking 97 minutes of racing action you'll see this year and definately belongs in any enthusiast's DVD collection!
Georgio Piola's eagerly anticipated '2005/06 Formula One Technical Analysis' is due to arrive by the weekend. $34.95 plus shipping. Reserve now!

10/10/06 UPDATE:
Lots of new arrivals to tell you about today. Above, a new giclee
print offering from Randy Owens entitled 'Must be 56 Inches
to Ride'. This limited edition of just 50 prints, each hand
signed by AJ Allmendinger is priced at $125.00 plus shipping.
Not a bad commemorative of this American driver's breakthrough
season.
On the right: Perhaps the most interesting of Carousel 1's line of 1/48 scale aircraft is the World War I Nieuport 11 flown by an Italian ace named Franceso Baracca (more photos HERE).
Most serious Tifosi know why.
Baracca, a native of Modena, was Italy's top ace in the Great War, scoring 35 victories. He was known for the black prancing horse insignia on the fuselage of his Spad or Nieuport. Baracca was shot down and killed in June of 1918 while strafing enemy troops but his spirit lives on through this distinctive emblem.
Legend has it that after winning the Circuit of Savio at Ravenna in 1923 another Modena native - a young man by the name of Enzo Ferrari - was presented the prancing horse insignia by Baracca's parents to honor his amazing performance against more powerful opponents that day. Ferrari added a yellow shield (the official city color of Modena) and the initials S.F. and placed the new logo on the sides of his Scuderia Ferrari Alfas. When Ferrari began building his own cars in the late 40's, the 'Cavalino Rampante' became his trademark.
Today
it is one of the most identifiable and prestigious symbols of
excellence in the world.
Priced at just $69.95, Baracca's Nieuport would make an excellent addition to any collection of Ferrari models or memorabilia. Only 1,200 were produced. Don't miss out!
While we're on the subject of Ferrari, Maurice Louche's impressive new book 'Emotion Ferrari: Europe 1947-1972' is now in stock. It features more than a thousand photos, most never before seen, covering Grand Prix, Endurance, Rally and Hill Climb events. Each photo was selected either for its historic, technical, visual or human interest, or for its rarity, its unusual aspect or simply for its beauty or the emotion it creates. Each photo has a detailed caption (in both English and French) which includes chassis numbers where ever possible. Jean Sage helped with the French translations. Forwards were written by Paul Frere, Jean Guichet, Robert Manzon, Maurice Trintignant and Nino Vaccarella. A serious piece of work for the Ferrari enthusiast and historian. $235.00.
Mark Donohue won the 1972 Indianapolis 500 after Jerry Grant refueled the Mystery Eagle from the tank in Bobby Unser's pits and was disqualified. But the man who dominated the race that day was Gary Bettenhausen in the other Penske Racing entry. Gary B. led 138 laps but retired with ignition problems less than 50 miles from Victory Lane. Carousel 1's Limited Edition (1200) 1/18 scale model of Bettenhausen's Sunoco McLaren M16 Offy (seen below) is now available for $139.95 plus shipping. Additional photos on the New Die Cast Page.
The highly anticipated Joe Leonard STP Turbine Car is Carousel 1's November 2006 offering. We've posted as set of photos HERE. It should be at or near the top of a LOT of Christmas lists. Start dropping hints today!
More new stuff tomorrow. Visit us often - and BUY something!
