8/24/06 UPDATE: We were
very impressed with the quality and level of detail on BBR's latest
1/18 scale offering when our first
few
pieces arrived a few weeks ago. They disappeared before we had
a chance to take a few detailed photos for the website but a small
quantity of the 1954 LeMans winning version of the Ferrari 375
Plus - seen on the right - ($299.95) is scheduled to arrive
here at TMC early next week.
A couple cars from this shipment are not spoken for. Call us. You won't be disappointed.
'The
British at LeMans: 85 Years of Endeavour' ($79.95)
is a well illustrated (220 color, 185 b&w photos) 280 page
history of British involvement in the grueling 'Les Vingt-Quatre
Heures du Mans'. This wide ranging book pays tribute not just
to the cars and the people who have driven them over the past
eight decades, but to all those who have shared in their successes
and disappointments. Britain's car designers, engineers, team
managers, timekeepers, flag marshals, truckies, caterers, press
officers, journalists, broadcasters, photographers are all to be
found amoungst the support troops for the annual battle against
the clock. The book is filled with behind the scenes stories as
well as the dramas being played out on the track.
In stock.
Over the summer, we added an impressive inventory of secondary market art prints, original art and one of a kind memorabilia items to our selection of 'goodies'. We've brought many of these items along on our 'road shows' at Road America and Indy but with the crush of orders for Grand Prix added on to the usual summer madness, we've been unable to present them properly here on www.MotorsportCollector.com - until today. The first few items have been posted to the Private Collection page today. More prints - framed and unframed - will follow in the next few days. Future additions will also include a TAG Porsche McLaren engine with 3 Grand Prix victories and a spectacular bronze sculpture by Paul Nesse. Our 'Hard To Find' Die Cast page will also see some significant additions before Labor Day weekend. Visit us often!

8/22/06 UPDATE: Unpacking from a beautiful weekend at Road America. Hopefully, the weather will be just as nice when we're there for the return of Champ Car in September. New arrivals include the 'Racing the Silver Arrows' double DVD set from Terrific Stuff Video ($54.95) and the 1/43 Penske Porsche RS Spyder produced by Minichamps for Porsche ($44.95).

8/17/06 UPDATE: Michael Turner has just finished a painting commemorating Jenson Button's breakthrough victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix a few weeks ago. Entitled 'First in Hungary', the image will be available as an open edition print for $60.00 plus shipping. Prints ordered from TMC will be signed by the Artist. September delivery.
See you at Road America this weekend!

Equally significant is 'Porsche Rennsport' by Jeff Zwart and 'Porsche Moments' by Jesse Alexander and the biography of John Horsman, 'Racing in the Rain'. 8/10/06 UPDATE: We'll be posting photos of recent Minichamps arrivals to our New Die Cast page for the next day or so. One of the highlights is this long awaited Mark Donohue March Ford 751 in 1/43 scale and the Fernando Alonso 2005 French GP winner, also in 1/43.
Other die cast news: Minichamps will produce Limited Edition Jenson Button 'First Win' cars in both 1/18 and 1/43 scale to commemorate last weekend's surprise breakthrough win by Honda at the Hungaroring. 8/9/06 UPDATE: He was known as 'Umbrella Mike' a hard man among the beautiful people. 'Umbrella Mike' is Michael Joseph Boyle, the corrupt leader of Chicago's most powerful union and a gangster on friendly terms with Al Capone. Passionate about high class automobiles, Mike Boyle was one of the few who could afford the luxury of racing during the hardship of the Depression. Brock Yates chronicles the international intrigue surrounding the prestigious 1937 Vanderbilt Cup and the Boyle Specials that dominated Indianapolis. ($24.95) Looks like a fun read. In stock later this week.

8/4/06 UPDATE: As promised, we've posted photos of CMC's new Mercedes Benz 300 SL #3 from the 1952 Carrera Panamericana along with some other new 1/18 cars to the New Die Cast page. The Merc was produced in a Limited Edition of 3000. CMC's Limited Editions tend to sell out quickly, so our supply is limited.

8/3/06 UPDATE: Our first shipment of 1/18 scale Birdcage Maseratis arrived from CMC today. Absolutely stunning, as you might expect. Most back orders shipped this afternoon. We also received a small quantity of their new 1952 Carrera Panamericana #3 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Limited Edition ($189.95). I'll post photos of this beautiful piece on Friday.

8/1/06 UPDATE: A short break in the action long enough to give you some information on new arrivals here at TMC. The slipcased Limited Edition version of Harry Hurst's excellent book on the 1965 12 Hours of Sebring has arrived. Each copy is handsomely bound and embossed and contains a bookplate signed by Hurst, photographer Dave Friedman and Chaparral designer and race winner Jim Hall. Only 250 copies were produced and few remain at the very reasonable price of just $79.95 plus shipping. Pre-orders shipped today. A great historic keepsake book!

Good news for those of you who have been waiting patiently (some of you not so patiently) for the release of CMC's new Birdcage Maserati. We expect our first shipment to arrive by the weekend. All are sold but we expect the balance of our order to arrive in a few weeks.
Now that the 'Grand Prix' rush has settled down a bit, we hope to bring you up to date on some of the other new items that have arrived here at TMC starting tomorrow.

7/24/06 UPDATE: Another long lost Minichamps model arrived today. It's the 1/18 scale Toleman Hart TG184 from the Ayrton Senna Collection ($84.95). All back orders will be filled as soon as the carbon dating is finished on the order forms. We have a few extras in stock now. More photos HERE.

7/21/06 UPDATE: Three more of the summer's best new books are here. Left to right: 'Targa Florio: 20th Century Epic' is an extensive (480 page) history of Vincenzo Florio's two legendary races, the Targa Florio (1906-1977) and the Coppa Florio (1905-1981). The book features more than 400 photos and a 150 page appendix listing the complete results from each event. ($120.00) '24:16' is the richly illustrated autobiography of Norbert Singer, who was a central figure in Porsche's 16 overall victories at the 24 Hours of LeMans ($69.95). Last but not least is Terry O'Neil's intensely researched history of the 13 year history of 'The Bahamas Speed Weeks' ($99.95).
Add these to the Vic Elford autobiography ($39.95) that arrived late last week and the slipcased edition of Harry Hurst's '12 Hours of Sebring 1965' ($79.95) that's due to arrive next week and you have a sports car racing fan's dream summer!

7/18/06 UPDATE: A TMC Exclusive: A small quantity of Grand Prix DVDs signed by World Champion Phil Hill. Phil had a small role in the film (Tim Randolph, James Garner's teammate at Yamura) and drove the Ford GT camera car during the actual racing sequences. Available one to a customer, new orders only (no exchanges) for $50.00 each plus insured UPS shipping.

7/17/06 UPDATE: Back from a rather warm Road America. What a great turnout for the Can Am Reunion! Before we left for RA, all completed US orders for the Grand Prix DVD were shipped. Canadian and overseas orders ship this week. Please give us another day to unpack and organize ourselves after 3 hectic weeks before calling and checking on orders.
The Vic Elford biography is now in stock ($39.95). Preorders ship on Tuesday. Looks like a great read! Anyone who knows or has met Vic knows how many great stories he has to tell. We'll be displaying a series of 8 Can Am Giclees by Michael and Graham Turner this summer. You can preview the collection here. Watch for additional Turner giclees later this year.
For those of you interested in 1970s Formula One, we've just added one of our favorite documentary films on DVD. 'If you're not winning, you're not trying' is the story of the 1973 Grand Prix season with a focus on Colin Chapman and his JPS Lotus team of Ronnie Peterson and Emerson Fittipaldi. A must have for $29.95.
We'll be telling you about additional new arrivals all this week. Visit us often!

7/10/06 UPDATE: A hectic week here at TMC as we process your pre-orders for 'Grand Prix' on DVD and also prepare for the Kohler International Challenge at Road America this weekend.
Two new arrivals from Carousel 1 today, the Dan Gurney Indy Eagle from 1966 in 1/18 scale ($139.95) and von Richthofen's Fokker Triplane in 1/48 ($69.95). The Fokker is Carousel's first World War I aircraft model. Also scheduled is Francesco Baracca's Italian air force Nieuport 11. Tifosi will recall that Baracca's squadron emblem, a Prancing Horse, was presented to Enzo Ferrari by his widow after the war and became the symbol of the most famous racing team and car manufacturer in the world. ($69.95, reservations accepted).
Lots more new arrivals, but they'll have to wait until after Elkhart this weekend. If you're there, make sure you pay us a visit!

7/7/06 UPDATE: It was great seeing some new and familiar faces at Indy last weekend. We'll be back on the road again next week for the 40th Can Am Reunion at Road America. We'll be introducing a collection of giclee prints by Michael and Graham Turner featuring some of the great cars of the Can Am era at our Paddock display at Elkhart but you can preview them HERE.
We'll also have a fresh selection of books, DVDs artwork and other surprises at Elkhart next weekend. Hope to see you there.
Next week is the week thousands of us have been waiting for. John Frankenheimer's classic film 'Grand Prix' will be released on the 11th. We will be processing your orders all week. We've had a chance to view the DVD and it is nothing short of spectacular. The Special Features documentaries on the making of the film are worth much more than the modest $19.99 price tag. There's still time to order your copy of 'Grand Prix' on DVD. Just use our SECURE ORDER FORM or go to www.BuyGrandPrixOnDVD.com and use our new Shopping Cart.
6/26/06 UPDATE: Sorry for the lack of updates the past week or so. We've been preparing for our display at the USGP at Indianapolis. We'll be set up at our usual location on Crawfordsville Road across from the main gate of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We hope to be open by early Thursday afternoon. Our Downers Grove Gallery will be closed while we're at Indy but all email and phone messages will be returned after July 4.
See you at Indy!

6/14/06 UPDATE: Good news for Minichamps collectors: The long awaited 1/18 scale Nigel Mansell Williams FW14 1991 British GP winning 'Senna Taxi' (Mansell Taxi?) is expected to arrive by the weekend. We'll be processing the orders this week for those of you who placed pre-orders for this one when it was announced a couple of years ago.

6/13/06 UPDATE: We're pleased to announce that Phil Henny's unique memoir '...Just call me Carroll...!' is now available at TMC. Henny, a young Swiss mechanic, joined the Shelby team and participated in the development and construction of the 1967 24 Hours of LeMans winner driven by Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt. This fabulous experience allowed him to embark on a fantastic journey into the American racing scene ($59.00).
Speaking of Shelby, the brushed aluminum version of GMP's 1/12 scale 289 Cobra Roadster arrived at TMC late last week. It's an absolutely stunning piece but unfortunately, the 'signed cars' promised to us by GMP did not materialize. Instead, the 'Special Edition of 250' is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity hand signed by Carroll Shelby. Although it's unclear why the specifications of this model were changed without dealers being notified by GMP, we're guessing that Shelby's health was a factor. Still priced at $599.95, a portion of the proceeds benefit the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation. An additional 250 pieces are available for $499.95 without the signed certificate.
Additional photos of the brushed aluminum Cobra have been posted HERE.
Also, GMP has just annouced a Guardsman Blue #98 Ken Miles USRRC version of their 289 Cobra Roadster in a Limited Edition of 750 for release in the fall. Price is also $499.95. Reserve now.

6/7/06 UPDATE: It looks like our Email issue has resolved itself. Messages held up when our ISP upgraded their system late last week were released from que yesterday and I think we are back to normal. Just in case, if you placed an order or sent an email to TMC over the weekend and did not get a response, please let me know by calling us (630.515.1440 or 800.722.8630) or sending an email to zim@motorsportcollector.com.

6/6/06 UPDATE: Back from warm and sunny Watkins Glen, NY. It was warm and sunny Monday morning when we headed west, but the weekend was the usual cold, rain and mud we've come to expect from that particular circuit every time there's a major race scheduled. We love it anyway!
We'll be back at The Glen the weekend of September 8-10 for the Zippo US Vintage GP weekend. See you there! Bring your hip boots, just in case.
Thanks to Harry Hurst for making the trek up to The Glen Saturday to launch his new book '12 Hours of Sebring 1965' with a signing in the TMC tent. We have signed copies of both the 1965 book ($39.95) and his previous release '12 Hours of Sebring 1970' ($24.95) in stock. All pre orders for the 65 book ship today and tomorrow with author signed copies at no additional charge.
This is the last call for the Limited Edition of '12 Hours of Sebring 1965', the slipcased edition of 250 featuring a bookplate signed by Hurst, photographer Dave Friedman and race winner Jim Hall ($79.95). They're nearly gone.
