If you have Turner Classic Movies on your Cable or
Satellite system, you're going to love their July schedule. They
are doing a 'Cars in the Movies' festival, featuring 37 films
that feature everything from racing cars to time-travellng deLoreans.
The lineup includes: Grand Prix, Winning, Bullitt, Corvette Summer,
Hot Rods to Hell, Speedway, The Crowd Roars (with James Cagney),
Indianapolis Speedway, American Graffiti and The First Auto (featuring
Barney Oldfield). Check out www.turnerclassicmovies.com for the
July schedule and buy some extra VHS tape or blank DVDs.
While we were in Indianapolis, we spoke with the organizers
of the annual Memorabilia Show. For 2006, the show will return
to a 2 day format, Friday and Saturday before the Indianapolis
500, and will remain at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. We'll have
more details as they become available.
6/29/05 UPDATE: As promised, we posted photos of Stu
Povick's latest creations on his page late Tuesday afternoon.
Click HERE or on the image to
the left for Stu's page, which contains his latest work, our current
inventory and a gallery of his previous work. Commissions happily
accepted.
Back in the early 90's artist David Gray produced a
series of limited edition pencil prints of Indy Cars signed by
some of the legends of that era. We've recently acquired a small
quantity of Gray's print of Rick Mears and his first Indy 500
win in 1979. The prints in this edition of 500 are all hand signed
by Rick Mears and hand signed and numbered by David Gray. Click
the image above for the close up of Rick's signature.
For a limited time, we can offer these prints at the
original issue price of just $50.00 plus shipping.
A rare bargain, indeed!
6/27/05 UPDATE: Sorry for the lack of updates to this
column the past few weeks. We've spent much of that time in Indianapolis,
both for the 500 and the bizarre US Grand Prix. It looks like
it will be a while before we know whether or not Formula 1 will
be back next year or if the whole mess will be tied up in the
courts for the next decade. We've made our hotel reservations
already, so that will probably jinx it.
We'll be spending more time on the website this week,
so visit us regularly. Here are a few snippets:
-For those of you who are still fans of F1, we're making
a special offer on the 2004 FIA Formula One Review DVD this week,
just $29.95 plus shipping (regular price $34.95). You can save
even more if you order the Formula One Yearbook 2004/05 with the
DVD. Already a bargain at $19.95, we're offering FREE US UPS GROUND
shipping if you order both.
-There are several new book arrivals to tell you about:
Sports Racing Cars by Anthony Pritchard ($44.95) is here, along
with two popular annuals; Rallycourse 2004/05 and Motocourse 2004/05
($59.95 each). Blue and Orange by Michael Cotton is back in stock
again ($69.95) after the first printing sold out in just a few
weeks. Don't miss it this time!
-Over the winter, we were able to acquire two copies
of 'Formula One: The Cars and the Drivers', published in 1983
featuring paintings by Michael Turner and commentary by Nigel
Roebuck. Earlier this spring, these books were signed by Michael
Turner in England and our good friend Nigel was kind enough to
sign them at Indy last week (before it hit the fan). Both copies
of this hard to find out or print book are in very good condition
and priced at $100.00 each.
- For those of you who have been asking about the long
rumored Autocourse Champ Car Yearbook for 2004/05, we understand
they will actually exist sometime in late July or August. We're
taking reservations at $49.95.
-We're also expecting our first shipment of 1/18 scale
CMC Maserati 250F models sometime in late July, early August.
This one's going to sell out fast. Make sure you're on the list!
- For those of you who were asking about the 1/24 1965
Daytona 500 winning Ford Galaxie of Fred Lorenzen that we teased
a few months back, Team Caliber informs us that it, along with
a Richard Petty Torino, has been cancelled due to 'licensing difficulties'.
Sorry, I wanted one too.
- Check our Out of Print
Autocourse page for some new additions. This year's US allocation
of the Autocourse Formula One annual (2004/05) is now sold out.
We will still be able to fill orders, but the additional shipping
cost will require an increase in price from $64.95 to $59.95.
Sorry.
- The first of the 2006 calendars has arrived. It's
the 'Motorsport Memories: Maiden Wins' calendar and features photos
of Dan Gurney, Mario Andretti, Gilles Villeneuve, Stirling Moss,
Jim Clark, Ayrton Senna and others for $19.95. We'll have a few
photos for you later in the week.
- And the best news of all came in a package from Stu
Povick, our Folk Art Sculptor who was critically injured in a
automobile vs. motorcycle accident late last year. Stu is making
a steady recovery after lying in a coma for more than a month
and has, we're happy to say, resumed work on his creative car
sculptures. Four beautiful new pieces have just arrived. We'll
have photos up for you tomorrow. Way to go, Stu!
6/25/05 UPDATE: We're almost fully recovered from the
US Grand Prix at Indianapolis. Watch for lots of updates to the
website starting Monday.
6/6/05 UPDATE:
Two more great new 1/18 Porsche 911 GT3 racers have arrived
from Auto Art. Check out the full photo sets on the
New Die Cast page.
As we mentioned last week, we will begin shipping the
long awaited 'Chaparral 2 Evolution' print on Wednesday. Signed
by both Phil Hill and Jim Hall and priced at just $99 plus shipping,
this is one of the best bargains in motorsport art on the market
today. There's still time to reserve a copy. Just give us a call.

STP OIL TREATMENT SPECIAL LOTUS 38 - 1966 INDIANAPOLIS 500
6/2/05 UPDATE: Back from Indianapolis and one of the
most exciting 500s we've ever had the privilidge to witness. I've
never seen such close racing and as many lead changes in my 36
years of going to Indy. If you haven't seen our story on Danica
Patrick from 5 years ago, you can still read it HERE.
It was good to see many of you at the Memorabilia Show
last week. I would be interested in hearing your impressions of
the show and it's new location. We understand the promoters are
trying to get AJ Foyt and the Unser Family (Bobby, Al, Al Jr,
Just Al) for next year. Email me at pz@motorsportcollector.com
with your comments.
Two significant Limited Edition prints that we've been
telling you about for several months now are finally set for release
in the next week or so. There's still time to order 'Chaparral
2 Evolution' by Kane Rogers ($99) and 'Michael
Schumacher: Champion Supreme' by NA Watts ($995) at
their original issue prices. With the decline of Ferrari this season,
there's a good chance that 2004 was Michael Schumacher's final
World Championship. If that is the case, we can't think of a better
print to commemorate his record breaking career.
