3/30/07UPDATE: Enough with the diecast!

Top left is a new Autograph Presentation honoring Jim Clark that made its debut at TMC this afternoon. (4/3-SOLD)The central focus of the piece is a photograph taken in 1963 after Clark won his first World Driving Championship. The photograph shows Clark posing next to an impressive collection of racing trophies in his family home. Above the trophies hangs a framed print of a Michael Turner painting commemorating Clark's win in the 1962 British Grand Prix at Aintree. The rear view of the Lotus 25 is a study in cool as Turner captures Clark's smooth, calm driving style. We've grouped this photo with a copy of that same 1962 Michael Turner open edition print (one of our all time favorites) and a black and white photograph signed by Jimmy himself. Non-glare photos can be found HERE.

Top right are two new books from Ferrari, the '2006 Ferrari Yearbook'- 1 COPY LEFT and the companion '2006 Ferrari Racing Activities'-SOLD OUT. These official Factory publications are in very short supply and extremely collectible, especially as Michael Schumacher takes his final curtain call. $90.00 each plus shipping.

The black and white photograph above left shows a brace of Mercedes-Benz W196 Streamliners before the start of the 1954 French Grand Prix at Reims. It is one of more than 1,300 images featured in the forthcoming memoirs of long time racing photojournalist Bernard Cahier. 'F-Stops, Pit Stops, Laughter & Tears' ($149.00) is a massive 768 page,142,000 word 2 volume set. Only 600 will be available in the US. Details HERE.

3/30/07UPDATE: More news from Minimax on their Spark and Bizarre lines. Additional production is planned for three of Spark's 'sold out' 1/43 scale Porsche 962s (seen above) in the next few months. All back orders on file with TMC will be filled. A few spare pieces remain. Reserve now ($49.95 each). Some new Bizarre releases were announced this week. Details HERE.

3/26/07UPDATE: The corrected list of 2007 model releases by Minimax has now been posted HERE. You can also download the list as a PDF File. As we've said the past few months, we've been very impressed with the quality coming from Spark and Bizarre. Lots of exciting new models are on the way, including 1/43 scale Ford GTs from the 1964 season and a series of 1/43 McLaren M6As, starting with Bruce McLaren's works car from 1967 and it's 1968 incarnation as the beautiful pinstriped Mark Donohue Sunoco McLaren from Penske Racing.

We'll accept advance orders on everything on the list.

THE BEST OF LeMANS - DVD

LeMans 1955 - Perhaps the most infamous sports car race in history because of the crash that killed 80+ spectators. The Fangio/Moss Mercedes 300SLR led early but was withdrawn after Levegh's fatal accident, giving Jaguar a 1-2-3 finish with their new D-type. 19 minutes.

LeMans 1960 - No less than 12 works Ferraris led the charge against the beautiful Birdcage Maserati and Briggs Cunningham's Corvette. 24 minutes.

Triumph at LeMans 1961 - Triumph took the team prize for the second straight year with their team of experimental TRs as Hill and Gendebien took the overall win for Ferrari. Historic footage of Jim Clark in the Border Reivers Aston Martin, which led part of the race. 35 minutes.

3/23/07 UPDATE: Wallace Wyss's previous book on Carroll Shelby ("Shelby's Wildlife: The Cobras and Mustangs"), written 30 years ago, sold more than 50,000 copies and remained in print for 17 years, an amazing accomplishment for any motor racing book. In "SHELBY: The Man, The Cars The Legend", a compact (6"x9" 208 page) paperback 'sequel', he reviews the life and times of Carroll Shelby and brings us up to date on his current projects and passions. Along the way, he gives us an in-depth look at the fascinating career and tremendous accomplishments archieved by this motoring icon and spins a few new yarns as he goes. Well researched, this looks like a fun read. Includes small, but well captioned black and white photo section (50 photos). Not just another Shelby book! $19.95

"The Best of LeMans" is a new DVD release from the producers of Motorfilms Quarterly. It contains three completely restored and remastered full color (colour) promotional films from the archives of Standard Triumph chronocling the 1955, 1960 and 1961 24 Hours of LeMans (see details above). SOLDSOLD

3/20/07 UPDATE: One of the featured items (if it's still available) in this week's Email Update will be this recently acquired 1/12 scale model of the 1966 LeMans winning Ford GT Mk II by GMP, a Limited Edition piece that has been sold out for a couple of years now. Jeff has gone over this example and it looks to be in new condition. The Mk II is SOLD. A couple other 'one offs' are to be included in this week's Email Update. Sign up HERE if you haven't done so already.

3/16/07 UPDATE: We're big fans of the artwork of John Ketchell and have featured his limited edition giclees here at TMC for a couple of years now. Recently, Ketchell switched publishers and as a result of various factors, has raised prices of his existing titles across the board. We have a very nice selection of giclees on paper in stock that we can offer to you at the original price ($140.00 plus shipping). A list of available prints can be found HERE. These prints are available first come, first served. Future orders will be filled at the new price (estimated to be $180 - $200 for a giclee on paper). We will try to keep this list accurate to avoid hard feelings, but we will be participating in the 26h Annual Ferrari Literature, Art and Model Expo this Saturday, March 17 from 9am to 4pm so we probably won't be able to update the list until Monday.

The 2007 Formula One season got underway today as practice for the Australian GP began down under. Minichamps announced their 2007 F1 die cast program this week. Click the banner below for the full list. As experienced collectors know, these models won't start appearing until the end of the year but we are offering a 10% discount on all pre-orders received by May 1. It's not too early to jump on the Lewis Hamilton bandwagon after his impressive first day in Melbourne!

3/14/07 UPDATE: A great selection of 1/24 and 1/43 models from Spark and their sister companies Red Line and Bizarre arrived today. Top: Red Line's beautiful 1/24 scale 2006 Ferrari F248 F1 car, as driven by 7 time World Champion in his final Formula One season. Specifically, this version commemorates Schumacher's win in the 2006 European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Each numbered piece (limited to 1000 world wide) comes mounted to an heavy black base and arrives in a elegant presentation box and an acrylic dust cover ($179.95) We've posted a full photo set HERE. Also from Red Line, a Limited Edition (1500) Ferrari 333SP as raced at Daytona in 1999 ($114.95). Spark models include the 2006 LeMans winning #64 Corvette C6R and it's stablemate #63 ($49.95 each) along with a brace of LMP2 racers. Bizarre's contribution to today's arrivals is the unique (bizarre?) Alfa Romeo BAT 5, designed in the early 1950s (also $49.95). Lots of photos on our New Diecast page.

We'll be posting pre-order sheets for Spark, Bizarre and Red Line shortly along with one for the 2007 Formula One Collection from Minichamps in the next few days.

3/13/07 UPDATE: The wild looking machine pictured above is Auto Art's new 1/18 scale G'zox Mugen NSX as raced in the 2003 Japanese Grand Touring Championship (JGTC) series ($104.95). It has been released in a limited edition of 3000 pieces, each with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity (we're seeing low numbers here). Although this is one of Auto Art's 'sealed body' cars, the polished chrome and black body and additional graphics are stunning.

The 1/18 scale David Coulthard Red Bull RB2 ($79.95) arrived today along with the 1/12 scale Nicky Hayden and Max Biaggi 2005 MotoGP Hondas ($69.95 each) along with other assorted goodies. Minichamps did a fantastic job of placing the various aero tabs, fins and wings on the Red Bull car! Supplies are limited. Photos of all of today's new arrivals can be found on the New Die Cast page.

3/7/07 UPDATE: More interesting new diecast to tell you about today, including GMP's second Ferrari engine release. This is the 250 Testa Rossa version of their fun 1/6 scale replica V12. As with the previous 250 GTO engine, the Red Head features an operating shifter with matching sound effects. (see our demonstration mpeg HERE). As well as being a neat toy, it's a beautiful model. Also in red, Kyosho's latest 1/18 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 racer, the Ballot-Lena/Elford car from LeMans '73. Minichamps delivered a unique 1/43 Limited Edition version of Ronnie Peterson's March 761, as driven by 'Super Swede' in that year's South African GP. Photos of everything on the New Diecast Page.

3/5/07 UPDATE: CMC's new Auto Union Type C Hillclimber is now available ($249.00). Although we can't put it side by side with previous Type C versions from CMC, as always, the quality and level of detail reaches higher levels with each new release. We expect the arrival of CMC's Limited Edition Maserati Tipo 61 ' Birdcage' chassis in a few days. Only a few pieces remain from our initial shipment ($175.00). Two other German racers arrived from Minichamps late last week. Photos of everything have been uploaded to our New Diecast page.

The other day, we told you about the newly released 6 disc DVD set 'Great Cars' ($44.95). After reviewing the entire 9 1/2 hours of programing on this boxed set in the Gallery last week, we have to name it our 'sleeper of the month' (if not the year). Included in the main marque episodes (Ferrari/Alfa Romeo, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Mustang/Cobra/GT40 and Corvette) and buried in the Special Features of each disc is a treasure trove of original factory films such as 'Tribute to Fangio' , 'Porsche 917' and '1971 Nurburgring 1000k', bonus episodes like the 'Silver Arrows' and documentary films such as 'Zora Arkus Duntov and the Experimental Chevrolet Corvette SS' (the main Corvette episode has color footage of the car racing at Elkhart Lake!) and 'Birth of the Mustang'. It's one of the best DVD bargains in our entire inventory. Order now!
