6/21/10 UPDATE: The ultimate LeMans history is set for publication as soon as data from this year's 24 Hours can be gathered and verified by authors Christian Moity, Jean-Marc Teissedre, Alain Bienvenu and Michel Bonte.
This three volume set (512 pages per book) will contain photographs or illustrations of every car that has started the 24 Hours of LeMans since 1923 plus the majority of non-starters (approximately 4,000 photos total). The text (in both French and English) will cover a wide range of subjects, including the evolution of race regulations, driver and entrant lineups, all classifications, the incidents and events that marked the history of the event and descriptions of the various circuit modifications and types of starts used in the 78 runnings of one of the sport's great events.
Two separate Editions of The Encyclopedia LeMans 24 Hours 1923-2010 will be published:
- The 'Classic Edition' will be available in a Limited Edition of 3000 slipcased volumes worldwide and is priced at $499.99. Reserve HERE.
- A 'Prestigious Edition' of just 500 sets is also planned. The content will be the same as the Classic Edition but the book covers will be produced in imitation alcantara and carbon and each set will arrive in a brushed aluminum presentation case with an aluminum plate engraved with the owners name. Call TMC for further information.
Delivery of the 'Classic Edition' could come as early as late Summer with 'Prestigious Edition' copies arriving towards year end.
NART FERRARI 330 P3 / 412P - LeMANS 1967

GMP has just announced two 1/18 scale versions of the Pedro Rodriguez / Giancarlo Baghetti Ferrari entered by Luigi Chinetti's North American Racing Team to compete at LeMans in 1967. Chassis #0844 was the first of the original P3's built and had been the third car in Scuderia Ferrari's 1-2-3 sweep at Daytona earlier in the year.
At
LeMans, now wearing the American racing colors of white and blue,
the 412P qualified 8th and was running competitively until excessive
oil consumption caused by the installation of the wrong sized
piston rings at the Ferrari factory forced it to retire near the
midway point of the race.
Both Practice ($289.95 shown above) and Race ($279.95 at left) versions will be produced for release this fall. The Practice version will be available in a Limited Edition of just 412 pieces.
Features on both pieces include; serialized plate, Diecast metal body with removable front and rear bodywork, Poseable steering , Functional Suspension, Opening fuel filler doors, Plumbed and wired engine, engine cover support, Movable shifter, sliding side windows and Fabric seatbelts.

6/4/10 UPDATE:
Some very good news this week for those of us who are fans of
sports car and endurance racing in the early 1970s:
GMP formally announced their first 1/18 scale Ferrari 512 release, continuing their series of important Ferrari sports/prototypes led by their earlier P4s and 312PBs. The first release will be the 512S driven to a third place finish in the 1970 Targa Florio by Nino Vaccarella and Ignazio Guinti. Late fall delivery is anticipated (prayed for) and the SRP has been set at $299.95. You can reserve one of these beauties HERE.
Announced maybe 7-8 years ago, Auto Art is finally delivering their 1/18 scale Steve McQueen / Peter Revson Porsche 908/2 in 1970 Sebring livery. They're 'on the water' now. We expect ours (ordered many moons ago) by early July. $159.95. Reserve HERE.

5/25/10 UPDATE: Sorry for the lack up updates on this page the past couple of weeks. I was away last week on a rare family vacation and the weeks before that were rather hectic - as those of you who are subscribers to our FREE Email Updates are well aware.
Only minutes after an Email offering a small stash of the long out of print Japanese book on Jim Hall's Chaparrals, 'Chaparral: The Texas Roadrunner' earlier this month, the flood of orders exhausted our supply. We immediately pulled the item from the Online Shopping site but orders continued to pour in for several hours. A second email was distributed, explaining the situation and our source was brutally interrogated until he surrendered his remaining copies of this classic book (at a slightly higher price, of course). This second batch is expected to arrive at TMC on or about June 10.
OUR SECOND BATCH HAS SOLD OUT AS WELL. BOOKS WILL BE SHIPPED AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU IF WE ARE UNABLE TO FILL YOUR ORDER.

Are you getting our Email Updates?

4/14/10 UPDATE: Our Online Shopping Website is back up and running. Use it with complete confidence.
New models due next week include this 1/43 scale offering from Spark; the 4 cylinder Climax-powered version of the AAR Eagle Grand Prix car as raced by Dan Gurney in its Formula One debut at the 1966 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa. Dan finished 7th in the rain, just out of the points one year before scoring the Eagle's (now powered by the Weslake V12) first and only World Championship victory at the same venue. A must-have for us Gurney collectors! ($59.95 plus shipping). Order HERE.
Check out the other coming attractions HERE.

4/9/10 UPDATE: Three new arrivals today:
The 2009 FIM World Superbike Double - DVD Set ($29.95). The two disc Official Review is packed with stunning action footage from all 28 races, bringing you comprehensive highlights of the entire season. Ducati's Noriyuki Haga started the year as title favorite, with hopes he could finally land that elusive fist World Championship. However, he would be challenged all the way by the spectacular Texan Ben Spies, who took his Yamaha to victory after victory. 420 minutes of action for just $29.95! Order HERE.

The Ferrari Phenomenon: An Unconventional View of the World's Most Charismatic Cars by Matt Stone & Luca Dal Monte ($39.95). How much do you really know about the world's coolest, most exciting carmaker? Why did Enzo Ferrari favor purple ink? Why didn't Mario Andretti ever become a full-time Ferrari driver? Which Hollywood actress inspired a shade of silver paint that is still available from Ferrari today? And where's the best place for an authentic meal when you're visiting Maranello?
In this book, the Authors offer a unique perspective on the iconic car manufacturer. They begin with a revealing biographical sketch of Enzo Ferrari himself, then explain the founding of the company in Modena and its move to Maranello. The book concludes by profiling the new generation of executives responsible for the company's success today and a tour of the dramatic contemporary architecture of the Maranello campus.
In 'The Ferrari Phenomenon', the Authors approach their subject in a manner that's a bit less serious - and a little more fun. The book explores the lighter and lesser-known sides of Ferrari, not only through conventional chapters and text, but also in shorter, quick-reading pieces such as lists, quotes and detailed photo captions. The result is an original account that will give even die-hard tifosi new insight into the exciting and colorful world that is Ferrari. We like it! $39.95. Order HERE.

1967 Shelby Terlingua Ford Mustang (1/18 Scale by Greenlight $59.95): A tribute to Jerry Titus and the 1967 Ford Mustang that campaigned in that year's SCCA Trans Am Championship under the Carroll Shelby Terlingua Racing Team banner.
According to Shelby friend and co-conspirator Bill Neale, 'Jerry was a bit of a maverick and Shelby wanted his car to really show up on the grid so we painted it 'Gawdalful Yellow' with a black hood'. The combination of outrageous looks and serious performance in a car driven by such a cocky, talented driver made the team very popular - and successful.
Shelby's Terlingua Racing Team led Ford to the 1967 Trans Am Manufacturer's Championship with Titus taking the 'unofficial' Driver's title. Terlingua, Texas became the site of the World Championship Chili Cookoff and the 'Racing Rabbit' logo, paw raised ('no peppers') lives on to this day.
Greenlight has produced a 1/18 scale Limited Edition (1500) of the Terlingua Mustang. $59.95 plus shipping. Limited Supply. Order HERE.

ORDER
A COPY OF 'PHIL HILL
- A DRIVING LIFE' BY APRIL 18 AND WE'LL
ENTER YOUR NAME IN A DRAWING FOR A PHIL HILL SIGNED COPY OF 'AMERICAN
CHAMPION BY GRAHAM TURNER.
In his World Championship year, Phil Hill led a Ferrari 1-2-3-4 sweep of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. To commemorate that victory, we commissioned a painting from English artist Graham Turner and published a Limited Edition of 500 prints, which Phil Hill graciously signed back in the early 1990s.
One of these signed copies will be awarded to a buyer of 'Phil Hill: A Driving Life' on Monday, April 19. We will draw one name at random from all collectors who purchased their copy here at The Motorsport Collector by midnight, Sunday night, April 18, 2010 and award them a copy of 'American Champion' .
The winner's name will be posted here at Noon Monday, April 19.

PHIL HILL - A DRIVING LIFE by Phil Hill and John Lamm
Though he's best remembered as the first American Formula One champion and a three-time Le Mans winner, Phil Hill (1927-2008) also enjoyed a long career as an automotive writer. Hill was a regular contributor to Road & Track magazine, writing vivid, first-person accounts of his experiences driving everything from the earliest horseless carriages to the most modern road and race cars. Phil Hill: A Driving Life gathers the best of these stories, each of them accompanied by dazzling photographs from Hill's friend and colleague John Lamm.
The book starts with the very first car, a three-wheeler built by Karl Benz in 1886. From there it's on to a classic Packard touring car from 1915, the first-ever MG, the revolutionary rear-engined Auto-Union D-Type, and many others. Several chapters find Hill reunited with cars that played a significant role in his racing career. From the 1950s there's the Jaguar XK120 that gave him an early win at Pebble Beach in 1950 and the Maserati 250F that he drove in his first Grand Prix at Reims in 1958. A decade later there are the Ford GT40s he helped develop, 1963's ill-fated ATS 100 Grand Prix car, and the unique, high-winged Chaparral 2F that yielded his last professional victory at Brands Hatch in 1967. And there are also Phil's recollections of other great drivers he drove with and against, including Juan Manuel Fangio, Stirling Moss, Olivier Gendebien, and Dan Gurney.
Whether he's writing about a rare vintage race car, a hard-fought victory, or an old friend, Phil's essential qualities of intelligence, curiosity, and integrity always come through. Phil Hill: A Driving Life provides a unique perspective on automotive history from a true champion.

3/9/10 UPDATE: Just in from Minichamps, the 1/18 scale Martini Racing Porsche 917/20 that took Herbert Muller to the 1974 Interserie Championship in Europe. This car was, in fact, Porsche 917/30 chassis number 001, that started life as a test mule for the all conquering Penske Panzer which dominated the Can Am season in 1973 with Mark Donohue at the controls. Chassis 001 was loaned out to various European teams to contest the Interserie in 1973 and 1974 and now exists as a museum piece. It was dubbed a 917/20 because it mated 917/30 front bodywork to the tail section off a 917/10. The model is presented as the 1974 Nurburgring Supersprint winner. Great detail. More photos HERE. SOLD OUT

3/4/10 UPDATE: We've made our selections from the 2010 Minichamps Catalog program and listed them HERE on our Online Shopping website.
