6/16/09 UPDATE: Spark's latest release is the final Group 7 car
produced by McLaren Cars, the McLaren M20, as driven to victory
at Mosport by Denis Hulme in 1972. Denny won again at Watkins
Glen a few weeks later but it was to be Team McLaren's final Can
Am win as Roger Penske's Porsche 917/10 in the hands of George
Follmer and Mark Donohue ended McLaren's 5 year domination of
the Canadian American Challenge Cup series.
You may have heard Bob Varsha's interview with Author AJ Baime during last weekend's coverage of the 24 Hours of LeMans. Baime's new book tells the story of the Ford v. Ferrari rivalry in this great race after Enzo Ferrari rejected Henry Ford, II's offer to buy his company in the early 1960s. A fascinating story.
In stock $26.00. Order HERE.

6/10/09 UPDATE: Amalgam has introduced two stunning 1/8 scale replicas of two iconic racing cars from two different eras:
On the left, Juan Manuel Fangio's 1954 French Grand Prix winning Mercedes-Benz W196 Streamliner.
On the right, the Gordon Murray designed McLaren F1 in LM configuration. Of the 106 McLaren F1s built, only 5 were prepared to LM specs (legend had it that the Sultan of Brunei bought them all), equaling the number of McLaren F1 GTRs that finished the 1995 LeMans 24 Hour Race - one of which was victorious. All five of these ultra special McLaren LMs were painted in 'Papaya Orange' in memory and tribute to company founder Bruce McLaren.
As an added bonus, Amalgam will include a Gordon Murray signed copy of Doug Nye's excellent book on the McLaren F1, 'Driving Ambition', with every model.
Order your model from TMC and we'll add a 'factory issue' McLaren pin set featuring all 3 of the McLaren's designations: 'F1', 'LM' and 'GTR' .
Each Limited Edition Amalgam masterpiece is priced at $5,300.00 plus shipping. A small quantity of each is in the US for immediate delivery.
You can reserve the Mercedes HERE, the McLaren HERE or call Paul at 800.722.8630 or 630.515.1440.

photographs.

6/5/09 UPDATE: We're very impressed with Spark's 1/43 scale Jim Clark Lotus 25, seen above. It's about time someone did a quality diecast of Clark's 1963 World Championship winner and one of the most elegant Grand Prix cars ever built. Now in stock for $59.95 plus shipping. Reserve HERE.

5/26/09 UPDATE: Back from a weekend in Indianapolis where we participated in the National Auto Racing Memorabilia Show Friday and Saturday and caught our 40th consecutive Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Looks like my streak may end next year so I can play proud Papa at a commencement ceremony a couple thousand miles away. We'll see how the schedules play out.
Our book signing with Michael Argetsinger on May 13 drew a full house of Donohue fans ignoring the tornado warnings and major thunderstoms in the Chicago area. Our last signed copy of 'Mark Donohue: Technical Excellence at Speed' sold earlier today but we hope to hook up with Michael one more time this summer.
We've set it up so you can reserve a book from our next signing, or get a copy sent out to you right away. Click HERE for a signed copy, or HERE for immediate delivery. $39.95 plus shipping either way.

4/29/09 UPDATE:
Sorry for the lack of updates in
this column lately, but I've tried to keep the left side - the
'Just In' side - of the page up to date along with the 'Just
In' section of Online
Shopping in the mean time.
And, if you take advantage of our regular Email Updates, you can keep current on most things going on here at TMC.
Lots of new arrivals to tell you about this
week, including the fourth 1/18
Porsche 901 (911) from CMC, this one a very good looking shade
of Blue ($318.95).
Also on the die cast front, a long awaited shipment of the 1955 LeMans winning Jaguar D-Type in 1/12 scale arrived from Auto Art ($499.95). Advance orders have been processed and a very small quantity of this beautiful piece remains in stock for immediate delivery.
Our Michael Argetsinger book signing is still 2 weeks away but we now have copies of 'Mark Donohue: Technical Excellence at Speed' in stock ($39.95) for those of you who just can't wait. Just indicate 'ship immediately' when ordering if you want an un-signed copy.
Also arriving this week is the new Jim Clark Story / 1965 at Indianapolis DVD ($29.95), the 1/18 scale Sam Posey Norris Eagle from Carousel 1 ($159.95) and a very rare copy of John Wyer's autobiography 'The Certain Sound'.
Coming next week: The 1/18 scale Apple Porsche 935 K3 from True Scale Miniatures ($165.00).
More in our next Email Update.
Coming April 21: 'Top
Gear 10: The Complete 10th Season'
($39.95)
4/9/09 UPDATE: Some say, it's the best show on TV.
We can't disagree.
For the first time ever, the BBC's top rated car show is now available on US Format DVD. This 3 disc set brings you all 10 episodes from Season 10 - that's approximately 500 minutes of speed, laughter, challenges, and banter starring a trio of presenters (hosts); Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May (Captain Slow) and the silent speed of the man(?) they call - The Stig.
If you're already a regular viewer of 'Top Gear' on BBC America, you know what I'm talking about. If you've never seen 'Top Gear', think of it as Monty Python playing with Veyrons and Koenigseggs with a show budget the size of Finland's.

4/9/09 UPDATE: We're auctioning
a rare copy of Janos Wimpffen's comprehensive history of endurance
racing 'Time and Two Seats' on eBay this week. To join in the
bidding for this and TMC's other eBay auctions, click HERE.

4/8/09 UPDATE: Is it for real this time? We understand the long-promised Auto Art 1/12 scale 1955 LeMans winning Jaguar D-Type is finally due for US release later this month. $499.95. Reserve HERE.

4/1/09 UPDATE: Sad news. Word has reached us that our friend Peter Bryant died of a heart attack last Sunday. It was just about a year ago that Peter visited TMC to sign copies of his biography 'Can Am Challenger' and spent a marvelous evening with Can Am fans spinning tall tales and reliving war stories from his illustrious career.
Peter was a very vibrant 71 years young. He would have been 72 later this week.

4/1/09 UPDATE: It's no April Fools
joke - GMP has formally announced their 1/8 scale Real Art Replicas
Lowenbrau Porsche 962. Enjoy the photo set HERE.
3/26/09 UPDATE: If for some reason you couldn't access them from yesterday's Email Update, here are the two videos we suggested you watch to get in the mood for this weekend's Formula One debut:

3/24/09 UPDATE: It's
being reporting that Indy veteran Lloyd Ruby has died at the age
of 81. Last week, it was reported that Ruby had been diagnosed
with a brain tumor. One of the best drivers never to have won
the Indianapolis 500, Ruby teamed with Ken Miles to win endurance
races at Daytona and Sebring aboard Ford GTs. The photo above
is from the 2007 National Auto Racing Memorabilia Show in Indianapolis
where Ruby signed replicas of his 1966 Eagle Ford Indy Car for
TMC.
3/20/09 UPDATE: More exciting news from TrueScale Miniatures: Yesterday, they announced four new 1/43 scale resin models of the Lola T-810 - better known in the US as the Nissan GTP ZX Turbo. These models are scheduled for delivery in late summer/early fall and will come complete with a wood base. Photos and ordering information HERE.

3/19/09 UPDATE: In addition to the Spa Eagle Presentation we talked
about two weeks ago, TrueScale Miniatures will produce a very
exclusive Limited Edition (300 piece) 1/43 scale three car Eagle
Grand Prix set which will consist of the 1967 Brands Hatch and
Belgian Grand Prix winners along with Dan Gurney's 1967 German
Grand Prix entry, which held a 42 second lead at The Nurburgring
with two laps to go when a U-joint failed. Click HERE
for additional photos. THREE

3/17/09 UPDATE: We're looking forward to the arrival of a new video set from our friends at Spirit Level Film. Check out the Trailer HERE.
First batch is due on Wednesday.

3/11/09 UPDATE: Just in: 'FORMULA 1 YEARBOOK 2008 - 2009' This is the biggest bargain in Grand Prix annuals. I don't know how Chronosports does it every year, but Luc Domenjoz puts together an exciting and informative review of the 2008 GP season for under twenty bucks. Great photography, race reports, statistics and even the FIA 'Sporting Regulations' crammed into 224 slick pages. $19.95. Try one!

3/10/09 UPDATE: The
latest release in the excellent 'Photographic Portrait' series
from Haynes arrived today:
It honors the career of 'Super Swede', Ronnie Peterson, one of the quickest and bravest Grand Prix drivers of the 1970s.
Ronnie burst upon the F1 scene in a privateer March in 1970. Despite disappointing results, he was promoted to the Factory March team in 1971 and given a spot on the Scuderia Ferrari sports car team in 1972.
His enormous talent (and the Lotus 72) brought him seven F1 victories with the JPS team in 1973 and 1974 but a disappointing 1975 season and a public row with Lotus boss Colin Chapman brought a return to March in 1976. Although competitive, the season brought just one victory, at Monza.
After yet another unhappy season in 1977, this one driving the unreliable 6-wheel Tyrrell P34, Ronnie returned to Team Lotus to partner Mario Andretti in 1978. The dominance of the JPS Lotus 79 brought 2 more GP victories for 'Super Swede' and the World Championship for Andretti but a start line accident at Monza would cost Ronnie Peterson his life.
This excellent photo-biography of Ronnie Peterson features 250 photos (180 color / 60 b&w) from the archives of LAT Photographic, Reminiscences by Alan Henry and Photo Commentary by Quentin Spurring.

3/6/09 UPDATE: Lots of Red Cars arrived at TMC this week:
Above left, the 1967 Daytona winning Ferrari 330 P4 ($269.95) arrived from GMP. All three versions of the 1/18 scale P4 are in stock. (3/9 UPDATE - The P4 Prototype (center) is now SOLD OUT)
GMP also delivered the 1/6 scale replica of the Flat 12 'Boxer' engine ($499.95) that powered the Ferrari 312 PB to the 1972 World Manufacturers Championship. The engine features a sound chip that simulates going through the PB's 5 forward gears when you hit the starter button and take the miniature shifter through the gates. GMP has developed a new sound chip that not only gives you the upshifts but the downshifts as well on this replica.
Shown with the engine is Red Line's 1/43 scale Andretti/Ickx Daytona winning Ferrari 312 PB ($104.95).

CMC delivered two versions of their exquisite 1/18 scale Ferrari 156 Dino Grand Prix cars this week: The #3 Wolfgang von Trips 1961 German Grand Prix Limited Edition and the #2 Sharknose driven to victory by Phil Hill in the 1961 Italian Grand Prix at Monza to clinch the 1961 World Driving Championship (seen below, next to #4, the Phil Hill 1961 Belgian Grand Prix winner).
All three Sharknose GP cars are priced at $318.95.

Rarely
do we get as strong a response as we did to this week's Email
Update. I've always been a big Dan Gurney fan and it's good to
see there are a lot of us still out there. The 1/43
scale Gurney Spa Eagle looked to us like one of the bargains
of the year ($85.00), we passed that information on to
you and you agreed.
Today, TrueScale Miniatures announced that the Limited Edition of 750 is now 'pre-Sold Out.' We're not surprised. That's why we reserved a bunch of them for TMC customers earlier this week.
Even so, about 75% of our allotment has sold since the Email Update went out two days ago. We urge you to check out the impressive photo set HERE.
TrueScale also announced the 3 car Eagle Grand Prix set ($220.00) is also 'pre-Sold Out'. We have a few of these left from our allotment as well. No photos yet, but they may be gone before the photos get here. Reserve HERE.
Are you getting our Email Updates? Sign up HERE. You'll get news and information on our latest releases, special offeres, one of a kind items and the occasional cool video.

3/4/09 UPDATE: We've gotten a 'sneak peak' at True Scale Miniatures's first 1/43 scale release and feel that it is one of the bargains of the year. True Scale has commissioned Minimax, the makers of Red Line, Spark and Bizarre, to produce a high detail 1/43 scale replica of Dan Gurney's iconic 1967 Belgian Grand Prix winning AAR Eagle Weslake V-12 number 36.
Each Eagle will be mounted to a handsome wood base, complete with a Dan Gurney autographed and individually numbered metal plate, and delivered with an acrylic lid to protect the entire presentation from dust.
All this for just $85.00 plus shipping.
Only 750 will be produced and a June release has been scheduled, Even in this economy, this one will probably disappear quickly. Advance orders are strongly advised.
