2/24/03 EVENING UPDATE: Late this afternoon, Minichamps announced a Limited Edition (2,403) set to commemorate Porsche's victory in this year's Daytona 24 Hour race 30 years after their first overall win in 1973. Both winning cars, the Brumos Porsche 911 RSR of Gregg and Haywood and the Racers Group car of Buckler/Schrom/Bernhard/Bergmeister are pictured on a simulated Daytona banking. SRP is $99.95. 2/7/03 AFTERNOON UPDATE: The other new arrival from GMP today is the spectacular Greer - Black - Prudhomme Top Fuel Dragster in which Don 'The Snake' Prudhomme gained much of his early reputation. 'The Snake' won an amazing 137 of 141 races behind the wheel of this sleek, yellow dragster. GMP has done a wonderful job on this one. $119.95 plus shipping. for a closer look.2/7/03 UPDATE: GMP has finally released the 1/18 scale Denis Hulme McLaren M8B as raced in Team McLaren's undefeated 1969 Can Am season. Between them, Bruce and Denny won all 11 races that year, with Bruce taking 6 wins and his second Can Am Drivers Championship. Denny finished second in the Championship with 5 race wins and a points total double third place finisher Chuck Parsons (160 to 80). As dominating as they were in the late 60's, this was the final curtain for the 'Bruce and Denny' show. McLaren lost his life in a testing accident at Goodwood just weeks before the 1970 season opener. Team McLaren's domination of the Can Am continued for two more seasons (Denny winning the 1970 Championship and Peter Revson taking the 1971 honors) until Roger Penske and Mark Donohue arrived with the Porsche 917/10. Denny's M8B is now in stock for $99.95 plus shipping. The matching Bruce McLaren car has been sold out for months, but we have one car available for $125.00. 2/6/03 UPDATE: This morning we made a few changes to the Carousel 1 section of our Die Cast PreOrder page to reflect the latest information received from that manufacturer. We've added the release schedule for their newly announced Porsche series and deleted some models that do not appear on their 2003 release schedule at this time. For those of you who have expressed disappointment with the delay of several new open wheel series releases, we'd like to call your attention to the 1972 Bobby Unser Olsonite Eagle scheduled for release in the 2nd Quarter. It's perhaps the most significant open wheel release we'll see until late 2003.
We've gotten information on Minichamps's 2003 new product announcements that were made public at Toy Fair in Germany last week. We'll begin posting that information to the Minichamps section of the Die Cast PreOrder page soon.
