While
I was out, our first shipment of 'The
Brothers Rodriguez' was shipped out to collectors who had
placed their orders early. Response from those who have received
their copies has been unanimous: This is perhaps the most impressive
and comprehensive racing biography ever published. David Bull
Publishing has definitely outdone themselves with this one. Copies
are now in stock for immediate delivery. $149.95 plus shipping.

In my opinion - they'll be paying a lot more than $150 for used copies a few years from now.
The annual Nuremberg Toy Fair has begun and along with it, new product announcements from the major players in the high end die cast business. GMP is showing a beautiful 1/8 scale Lowenbrau Porsche 962 at Nuremburg as part of their Real Art Replicas series. We've spent about a year begging and pleading with GMP to do the Lowenbrau Porsche in 1/18 (as they did with last year's Ferrari 330 P4 multi-scale release) so we hope that will be part of the deal.
GMP will follow up it's success with the P4 with a 1/18 scale Ferrari 312 PB in 2009. It should be stunning.
Minichamps and Auto Art have each announced a blizzard of new product that we may or may not see this decade.
CMC has issued this Press Release covering their 2009 offerings, which include a 1/12 scale Ferrari Sharknose, a 1/18 scale Mercedes Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, two versions of the Ferrari 250 GT/SWB Competizione and the long awaited Ferrari Testa Rossa.
Carousel 1 will announce their 2009 lineup next week.
We'll issue an Email Update with additional information as soon as we have it.

1/28/09 UPDATE: TrueScale Miniatures is moving up from their previously released die cast garage accessory sets to high-detail 1/18 and 1/43 scale racing cars. Their first release, due in March, is based on the Carousel 1 Porsche 935 K3 tooling (with lots of upgrades) and is a very nice replica of the car entered by Dick Barbour Racing for Bobby Rahal, Bob Garretson and Allan Moffat for the 1980 LeMans 24 Hour Race. The Kremer featured sponsorship by a little-known startup company called 'Apple Computer'. A Sample of this Inaugural release was made available to us for just a short time, but you can view the entire photo set HERE. $165.00 plus shipping. You can reserve one HERE.

1/23/09 UPDATE: Great news from David Bull Publishing this morning.
The monumental task of translating Carlos Eduardo Jalife-Villalon's
acclaimed biography of Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez has been completed
and the first shipment of the English Language Edition is scheduled
to arrive in a week or so.
Here are the details:
THE BROTHERS RODRIGUEZ
by Carlos Eduardo Jalife-Villalon
Forewords by Jackie Oliver and Jo Ramirez
Hardcover: 9" x 13.25" / 607 pages
Approximately 4,000 black & white and color photographs
$149.95
Youth, glamour, and blinding speed made Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez national heroes in their native Mexico and instant legends in the world of motorsports. Ricardo scored a podium finish at Le Mans in 1960, and then joined Ferrari as the youngest-ever Formula One driver. After Ricardo's tragic death during practice for the first Mexican Grand Prix, Pedro quickly built a dazzling reputation of his own, scoring grand prix wins for Cooper and BRM, winning the 1968 Le Mans 24 Hours, and dominating sports-car racing driving the awesome Gulf-Porsche 917. Then, at the peak of his talent, Pedro too was killed in a sports car race in 1971.
Along with their speed and versatility, Pedro and Ricardo became known as two of the racing world's most colorful and glamorous characters. In Mexico they were national heroes and personal friends of the president, while in France, Germany, and other countries they became adoptive favorite sons. They raced with such great drivers as Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Jim Clark, and Jackie Stewart, and served such legendary taskmasters as Enzo Ferrari, Colin Chapman, Louis Stanley, and John Wyer.
Exhaustively detailed and lavishly illustrated, with approximately 4,000 color and black-and-white photographs-many of them from the family's personal archives-The Brothers Rodríguez tells the complete story of Pedro and Ricardo's careers at the track, as well as their lives away from it. Author Carlos Eduardo Jalife-Villalón also sets their lives against the broader backdrop of Mexico's politics and history, explaining how motor racing and other sports helped the country to attract the world's attention during the fast-changing decades of the 1950s and 1960s.

1//15/09 UPDATE: Although the selection of quality racing DVDs here in the US has improved greatly over the past couple of years, we've always been a bit frustrated (and a bit jealous) that more European DVD titles have not been made available in the North American NTSC format to enthusiasts on this side of the pond.
All that has changed.
Recently, 'multi format' DVD players have become easier to acquire at a reasonable price here in the US. These 'multi format' players can play both US NTSC Format and European PAL format DVDs without difficulty. We were able to pick one up for about $70.00 (see below). We also understand that some game systems can also play PAL DVDs.
We have discussed this recent development with one of Europe's top motorsport DVD producers, Duke Video and have assembled a list of more than two dozen PAL format Duke titles that will soon be available here at The Motorsport Collector for US enthusiasts who have equipped themselves with PAL compatible DVD players.
These titles are not available in the US NTSC Format, and in most cases there are no plans to release them here.
Some of these titles are brand new, like the 2008 Season Reviews for the World Rally Championship, World Touring Car Championship, British Touring Car Championship and the 2008 Race of Champions.
Others are season reviews and team profiles from the Glory Days of the mid - to late 1980s World Sportscar Championship and films formerly available on VHS, such as; Formula Villeneuve, Hawthorn & Collins, This Time Tomorrow and Aston Martin: The David Brown Years.
Big Bangers at Brands looks like it will be a great program for those of us who are still big fans of the Can Am.
Perhaps the most interesting item on the list is the 10 disc LeMans Collection, featuring one hour reviews of each 24 Hour race from 1980 thru 1989.
You can find the entire list of PAL titles HERE.
Our first shipment of PAL DVDs is expected to arrive later this month. Some of the titles listed will not be released until February.
We are talking to other overseas DVD producers and hope to add additional titles on a regular basis.
To kick things off, I'm offering a 10% DISCOUNT on all advance orders for PAL DVD titles. Check out the list!
PHILIPS DVP3980 MULTI-FORMAT DVD PLAYER
We do not sell electronic equipment here at TMC. Check your local
Best Buy or other electronics dealer for their selection of multi-format
DVD players. Last fall, we were able to purchase one of these
Philips DVD players on the Death Star (Amazon.com) for about seventy
bucks. It does a great job playing both NTSC and PAL format discs.
Click HERE to view this player at Amazon.
When buying a new DVD player, MAKE SURE
THAT IT IS 'ALL FORMAT' OR 'PAL UK/EUROPE REGION' COMPATIBLE.
