1/31/07 UPDATE: For the next couple of days, we'll be adding information on some great new items that are due for release in 2007. Carousel 1's lineup has already been uploaded. We'll have CMC's new offerings up later today.
The image above is being considered as the dust jacket for John Zimmermann's new book 'Dan Gurney's Eagle Racing Cars' , which is expected mid-year. Zimmermann's book will be a technical history of the racing machines built by All American Racers. Dan's long awaited official biography is still in the works. We'll keep you advised if there are any new developments. We are accepting advance orders for the Eagle book.
1/30/07 UPDATE: The latest
release in the Motorfilms Quarterly DVD series, MFQ 17, is due
to arrive at TMC in the next few days. I've posted a list of subject
matter below. We hope to ship to all subscribers by early next
week. Along with it is a long overdue restock of the all previous
(1 thru 16) MFQ titles.
MFQ's are 'magazine' format programs produced in the UK and hosted by Doug Nye. They feature rarely seen short films from the archives of Shell Oil, Daimler Benz and other producers of motorsport films along with amateur 8mm footage from various European events. Film subjects includes pre-war Grand Prix races, 50's rallies and race meetings, 60's Grand Prix and sports car events and other unique racing footage. Each DVD features 4-5 films and runs about an hour and a half.
MFQ DVDs are priced at $39.95 each plus shipping. For information on the entire MFQ range, click HERE.
We've located a small quantity of the 1/43 scale Craig Breedlove 1963 'Spirit of America' Land Speed Record car produced a few years ago by the now defunct Scaleworks company. $49.95 while they last. The original 'Spirit of America' resides here in Chicago at the Museum of Science and Industry. (Anyone know where the SoA 'Sonic 1' is located?)
In case you haven't heard, Breedlove sold his latest SoA to Chicago adventurer Steve Fossett, who will attempt to break the 800 mph barrier at Bonneville later this year.

1/29/07 UPDATE: Photos of last week's Minichamps shipment have been posted to the New Diecast page.

1/26/07 UPDATE: It's been a good month for racing historians. Earlier this week, we met with Donald Davidson and Rick Shaffer in Speedway, Indiana for them to sign copies of their new book, the 'Autocourse Official History of the Indianapolis 500' ($59.95). Sales have been brisk, with only about a dozen signed copies available at this time. As always, there's no additional charge for signed copies.
And, this morning we received word that our first shipment of 'LeMans: A Century of Passion 1906 - 2006' ($225.00) is due to arrive early next week. That shipment is completely sold out. We are accepting reservations for our second shipment, due in March.
New arrivals from Minichamps include a World Champions Edition 1/43 scale Keke Rosberg 1982 Williams Ford FW08 ($44.95). We'll get photos up to the New Diecast page on Monday.

1/20/07 UPDATE: Next week, we will meet with Donald Davidson and Rick Shaffer, the authors of the Autocourse Official History of the Indianapolis 500 ($59.95), who have graciously agreed to sign copies of this must-have new book for TMC customers. Reservations have been brisk since we made the announcement in last week's Email Update (SIGN UP HERE) but it's not too late to reserve your signed copy (no additional charge).
MINICHAMPS COLLECTORS: Next week, Minichamps will announce new additions to their product line for 2007 and beyond. We'll post a full list here as soon as we return from Indianapolis. There has been quite a buzz the past few weeks about two models that were announced a year ago and pictured (as above) in the 2006 Minichamps Catalog. A brace of 1/18 scale Lotus 79's as driven by Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson during Mario's Championship Year made their debut in that 2006 catalog and are currently listed on the Minichamps (Germany) website as 'available from February 2007'. However, the Minichamps (Germany) website does not show a photo of the model and experienced collectors know that most release dates we hear turn out to be fiction. We spent a bit of time this week trying to track down additional information on this important future release. Although as of today, no one will confirm or deny that this piece will appear next month, we can confirm that it will not bear JPS (tobacco) logos but will feature full engine detail. The list price of the Lotus 79 will be $130.00, which is significantly higher than originally quoted. The addition of full detail, the weak US Dollar and the rising cost of raw materials are responsible for the increase.
Unfortunately, this price increase will not be the only one we see this year. We are seeing across the board price increases from nearly every die cast manufacturer. We'll post information from Carousel 1 and others in the next couple of weeks.
On the bright side, the quality of the models these companies are producing is improving with every new release.
On the odd chance that Minichamps will release the Andretti and / or Peterson Lotus 79's soon, we are accepting advance reservations. You don't want to miss this one.
Go Bears!

1/12/07 UPDATE: Long-time customers may remember our shop at Union Station in Indianapolis, The Arie Luyendyk Motorsport Gallery, back in the early 1990s. Our third partner at that location was racing artist David Gray. Dave has been getting excellent reviews in the aviation art world lately. His latest print release, 'Dauntless Courage' is now available here at TMC. The print features a scene from the Battle of Midway, and the attack on the aircraft carrier Kaga by Navy Dauntless Dive Bombers, specifically the Dauntless of then Lt. (jg) 'Dusty' Kleiss. Each copy in this Limited Edition of 500 is hand signed by the artist and by Captain (retired) Kleiss. $125.00 plus shipping.
