1/31/02 UPDATE: GMP's latest 1/18 scale Lola T-70 is here. It's Mark Donohue's 1966 Nassau winning Penske Racing Sunoco Special with a rare 'Pepsi' logo on the rear bodywork. Only 1,000 have been produced. Price is $89.95 plus shipping. Additional photos have been posted on the Die Cast New Arrival page.

One of the great book bargains currently available is 'Driven: The Racing Photography of Jesse Alexander 1954 - 1962' ($35.00). An even better bargain is this newly released set of 30 postcards featuring some of the most memorable photographs from 'Driven'. The set is presented in a handsome metal storage box. Great to collect, or to send to your very best friends. Just $15.95 plus shipping. Click the photo above for a larger view of the collection.

'Motocourse 2001-02', featuring a dramatic color photo of 2001 500cc World Champion Valentino Rossi, is now in stock along with 'Automobile Year 2001/02'. Both are priced at $54.95 each. Also in stock: 'Murray Walker: The Last Word' by Christopher Hilton ($24.95). The legendary F1 broadcaster retired after the 2001 US Grand Prix at Indianapolis. Looks like a fun read!

Some changes have been made to our Out of Print Autocourse Page to reflect some new arrivals.

1/29/02 UPDATE: Some disappointing (yet courageous) news from GMP today. The 1/12 scale Ford GT Mk IV's arrived at their Georgia warehouse earlier this week. A spot inspection revealed a manufacturing flaw that was considered too serious to be ignored. The entire shipment will be destroyed, corrections made and a new model produced. This will put back delivery of this magnificent piece until early May. Here is the text of GMP President Tom Long's statement on the matter.

We will keep you informed.

1/28/02 UPDATE: While trying to dispose of more than 40 virus messages this morning, our computer crashed - taking with it all of our inbound email from Saturday night to Monday morning (Secure Orders were not affected). If you sent a note to zim@motorsportcollector.com during that period, please resend it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

When does the new iMac get here?

A new book on one of our favorite subjects landed at TMC today. 'Auto Union GP Race and Record Cars' deals with the surviving Silver Arrows of Zwickau, their rediscovery and restoration. The book, published with the co-operation of Audi, is lavishly illustrated with original race photographs and highly detailed color photos of how the cars appear today. The book also contains a complete Auto Union race record from the 1930's. It won't take the place of the Chris Nixon books in your collection, but for just $39.95 it provides a terrific 'where are they now?' reference for your coffee table. Order HERE.

A new 'must have' video is due to arrive here in February. It's 'Filming at Speed: The Making of the Movie LeMans' ($19.95). This 30 minute documentary offers a special 'behind the scenes' look at Steve McQueen's 1970 film 'LeMans' - arguably the most realistic racing movie ever made.Reserve now. The film itself is in stock here at TMC for just $15.00 plus shipping. (Sorry, neither are available on DVD).

1/26/02 UPDATE: After a relatively quiet 2001, rising young American race driver Danica Patrick is the subject of a terrific article in this week's AutoWeek and in another online essay on the AutoRacing1.com website. Check them out. Back in 2000, we saw Danica finish a strong second in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch - matching Danny Sullivan's 'best ever by an American' finish and posted a feature on Danica and her accomplishment. You can still view it HERE.

Let's hope all the publicity gets Danica the support she deserves

1/25/02 UPDATE: This morning we posted a pre-order list of new slot cars from Fly and GB Track on our new Slot Car New Arrival page. Three pieces should be of particular interest to collectors: The Sachs / '79 Zolder version is the latest release in Fly's German Ford Capri range ($47.95). Our customers tell us the Capri's are the FASTEST Fly cars out there. They've also been very fast to sell out, so reserve your's today. Two versions of the 2001 Petit LeMans Corvette C5R's are coming, one with working lights ($59.95), one without ($47.95). The Corvettes were decorated with American Flags in the aftermath of September 11, so these will be very hot cars as well.

Pre-orders are recommended.

If you read my comments regarding GMP's 1/43 scale A.J. Foyt / Bowes Seal Fast 3-car set, you'll already know what a value I think these cars were. GMP's second 1/43 set, this one featuring Parnelli Jones, has just arrived and is of equal, if not better quality. The set contains Parnelli's Willard Battery Midget, Fike Plumbing Special Sprint Car and the Willard Battery Agajanian Dirt Championship car. All three cars feature removable hoods and detailed engines and are presented in a handsome wood display box for just $69.95. A full set of photos has been posted to the New Release Die Cast page.

Is there a better bargain in 1/43? I don't think so.

1/24/02 UPDATE: We've posted a full page of photos of Auto Art Millenium's new 1/18 scale Jaguar XJ 13. Just stunning!

Other new Auto Art arrivals have been posted to the January Die Cast New Arrivals page, including 2 versions of 2001 World Rally Champion Richard Burns' Subaru Impreza WRC.

1/23/02 UPDATE: The sleek beast above is the new 1/18 scale Jaguar XJ13 from Auto Art Milleneum ($79.95). We'll have additional photos of it, and several other new arrivals from Auto Art, posted by Thursday afternoon. The Auto Art Chaparral is back in stock ($79.95) in limited quantites. See you tomorrow.

1/21/02 UPDATE: Other 'Model of the Year' awards are being named. Toy Cars & Models magazine named GMP's 1970 GTO 'The Judge'. They're long sold out, but as we mentioned on the 18th, a white convertible GTO 'The Judge' has just been released.

Although the 2002 Minichamps Catalog will not be available for a couple of weeks yet, we've seen the 2002 Spring Price lists and see some very desireable new pieces on the way. Perhaps the 'hottest' model in the new catalog will be a 1/18 scale Michael Schumacher Jordan 191 (without driver figure). Also in 1/18 scale: the Porsche 906 as raced at Daytona in 1966, the BMW 3.5 CSL Sebring winner, the 'Stars & Stripes' Porsche 956L and the BMW M3. The most exciting offerings are in 1/43 with several Can Am McLarens scheduled for late in the year including a Bruce McLaren M8A, Denny Hulme, Dan Gurney and Peter Gethin M8D's and the M8F's of Denny Hulme and Peter Revson.

And then there are the Chaparrals. Both 1/43 scale 1967 LeMans versions of the Chaparral 2F are 'on the water' and should be here within a few weeks ($39.95 each). The 1/18 scale Chaparral 2D's and 2F's have quietly disappeared from the listings, but 1/43 scale 2H and 2J's have been added for release later in the year.

The Nurburgring winning Chaparral 2D will be released in a 1/43 scale gift box soon ($64.95). Order now.

We'll have a complete 'pre order list' posted to the website in early February.

1/18/02 UPDATE: A full photo set featuring the 1/18 GMP 'The Judge' convertible has been posted on the January Die Cast New Release page along with Kyosho's great new BMW 2002 tii in 1/18 scale ($69.95).

We also have photos of the latest 1/43 Lola T-70 Spyder from Fly Car Model - Roger McCluskey's Pacesetter Homes Special. They've reduced their price to $79.95 on the 1/43 Lolas. Take a look.

Those of you who have merchandise on hold at our Downers Grove gallery have until the close of business on Saturday to either pick up, or make arrangements for payment. On Monday, we will release the items for other customers. Give us a call at 630.515.1440 if we're holding something for you.

1/17/02 UPDATE: GMP's 1/18 scale Polar White '72 Pontiac GTO 'The Judge' convertible is now in stock ($119.95). We'll post additional photos on Friday.

We've started a Slot Car New Arrivals page. Check out today's additions!

We've also added a couple of rare pieces to our Hard to Find Die Cast page.

The Autocourse 2001/02 Formula One Annual ($54.95) is back in stock. The CART Annual has been printed, but we don't expect arrival in the US until mid-February. Reserve now.

1/16/02 UPDATE: GMP has released the latest model in their 1/12 scale Dirt Champ series. It's the 1974 USAC Dirt Track Championship winning Vel's Parnelli Jones Ford Special driven by Mario Andretti. The detail work on the Ford 4 cam Engine is worth the price of admission on this one. Only 700 have been built. We have the model in stock for $319.95. We've posted a full photo set HERE.

I think we should do a 1/12 scale model of the year for 2002, don't you?

Speaking of the Model of the Year Poll, the results of our 2001 Collector Poll are now available HERE.

Two popular season review videos are now in stock, the 2001 British Touring Car Championship Review and 2001 WRC World Rally Review. They are priced at $34.95 each.

1/15/02 UPDATE: These arrived back in December, but were hidden behind some other boxes. These are the VERY limited edition McLaren F1 GTR's that were produced for the Japanese market. Very small quantities available for $69.95 each - limit one each per customer.

Kevin Harvick's Tropicana 400 winning Goodwrench Monte Carlo has been added to the new January 2002 Die Cast New Arrival page. 1/24 scale Revell ($59.95). We also snagged a few of the Dale Earnhardt / Oreo Stock Car-Crew Cab-Show Trailer sets ($134.95) under the Brookfield Collectors Guild banner.

1/14/02 UPDATE: We'll be uploading photos of the new models that arrived after I left for the UK over the next few days. You can find the first ones on our new January 2002 Die Cast New Arrival page.

More tomorrow.

We're expecting our next shipment of Autocourse 2001/02 ($54.95) in the next few days. Reserve now. Autocourse CART Annuals are due to arrive in the US in mid-February.

1/3/02 UPDATE: Today's 'theme car' is the 1967 LeMans winning Ford GT40 Mk.IV. A production sample of GMP's 1/12 scale version has arrived and is on display at TMC. Breathtaking is an understatement. We have a few spots left on our advance order list ($444.95), but don't wait too long. They will probably be sold out before they get here. Late January, early February delivery is expected.

The model on the left is IXO's 1/43 scale Ford Mk IV, expected to arrive next week. These are going to sell just as fast. Just $29.95 plus shipping.

Did somebody say 'Mini-Me'?

GMP is about to release a 1/18 scale Mark Donohue Penske Racing Lola T-70 as raced in the Nassau Speed Weeks. It sports sponsorship from Pepsi - Cola (rare in road racing during that period) and carries an unusual car number (7). We'll post photos as soon as possible. This is a very limited run piece (1,000) so we suggest that you order early. Price is $89.95 plus shipping.

1/2/02 UPDATE: Voting has begun in our 1st Annual Model of the Year Collector Poll. We'll take your votes until January 15. I know this is Chicago, but please vote just once.

Lots of new models arrived in mid to late December when there was little time to post them here. We'll be uploading them to a Late December die cast page for the rest of the week, and will make a format change to our New Release Die Cast page that will hopefully help the pages load a bit faster.
